kayharley
Tomorrow I was supposed to travel up to N.H. to buy a 14 week old male Cairn from an exceptional breeder. I had everything set....bought a new crate, new food bowl, the type of food she gives her dogs, leash, collar, even puppy chew toys. I maped out my travel route and had a money order all ready for the transaction. Was even considering staying over in N.H. in a pet friendly motel for the night so I could bond with my new baby. Then on Saturday night my 17 year old son had a bad car accident (no injuries, thank God) but totaled his car. We have insurance but there's still the deductible to pay out and now only 1 car for us to share. Hubby drives a company vehicle that we don't use. So.....I had to cancel my trip and explain to this very compassionate breeder why I won't be up there. My son starts school tomorrow because of he is in a music/band/percussion program so his transportation has to be a foremost consideration. I'm so sad that I am not getting this dog. I had a list of names that I'd go over in my sleep deciding what to name my little boy. Guess things happen for a reason but I am determined to get myself another Cairn and hopefully from this same breeder. Just glad my son is okay and I have my 2 Cairn girls to love. Anyway, thanks for listening.
MikeC
Hi Kay, I am so sorry that you were not able to get this particular pup. This one was just not meant to be for whatever reason. From my life experiences, I have truly come to believe that things like this happen for a reason. This little pup was not meant for you, but that means there is another one out there, possibly not even born yet, that is for you. God knows that life is full of disappointments and not being able to get a little pup you had your heart set on is truly up there at the top, but your son is safe from his auto accident, so that joy should help alleviate the disappointment. The day will come (and probably sooner than later), when the sound of scampering puppy paws will fill your house. So hang onto all those things that you bought for the pup that was not meant to be, and continue thinking about names because as sure as the sun with rise tomorrow, another pup will surely come along for you to love. I may be just a sappy, maudlin old man, but these beliefs have gotten me through many disappointing times:thumbsup: MikeC
Mama Kim
I'm sorry to hear your news. I know you are disappointed about not getting your new boy but maybe it just wasn't meant to be. Enjoy your 'girls', hug your son, and count your blessings that no one was injured. Hang in there. I'm sure when the time is right, you'll get your new pup. wheezie23
Kay, I am so sorry. I know you are very disappointed. But thankfully your son was not injured or worse. Sometimes it's hard to see the blessing in a difficult or dissapointing situation. Your pup is out there. I'm sure in a very short time you'll be sending us reports on your new little pal. Hang in there. thela Check out Tucker, Scruffy and Chloe's dogster pages: http://www.dogster.com/?82915 http://www.dogster.com/?85018 http://www.dogster.com/?327895
CarCarDawn
Hi! I am so sorry for all your troubles - - just a thought - - is there any way the breeder can ship your lil guy??? I live in NY state and my pup was shipped to me from Tulsa, Oklahoma. He arrived the same day he was shipped and I promptly picked him up - - he was in a shipping crate that had a special liner and was equipped with both water and food containers. He was given the utmost care and was in extremely good condition. The cost of the airplane fare was minimal compared to the cost of a hotel room and gas - - - just an idea! toomanypaws
Oh gosh, Kay I felt your sadness in your post. I don't think I could express my thoughts in words better than Mike did. I feel your hurt in not getting your new pup (big negative), but the positive is your son is ok If this breeder is good, she'll/he'll understand your situation and if this puppy isn't the one for you, there will soon be one in the distant future. I wasn't looking for my 3rd pup when she popped into my life. Yours too will be in your life before you know it. kayharley
Thanks all....yes, things do happen for a reason. I don't think this breeder would ship a pup. She's the type that wants to know the people who get one of her "kids". I liked that. Plus the expense right now is a factor. I will be getting one of her puppies in the future. That I know!! Scully'sMom
Kay, I'm sorry to hear about your son and also about your disappointment regarding the new pup. I'm glad that your son wasn't injured and I'm with the rest of the group that things do happen for a reason so perhaps another pup will be waiting in the wings for his new mom. Guest posting as: derecskey
I'm sure you've thought of this, but if you haven't... does your insurance policy cover rental cars/loss of use? Many do. It's generally a pretty cheap option. Just a thought.
kayharley
To update...Insurance will cover rental but it will just add to our premiums in the long run. Insurance is going to be outrageous as it is if/when son gets another car. I think I need to think about how blessed I am to have 2 healthy Cairns and not try to overload by adding another although I have the heart and desire to have more. Today Madison was a terror...ran outside despite command to Stop and completely covered herself in mud trying to terrorize the bulldog nextdoor (he's so cool and just turns his nose up at her as she runs up and down the fence) I looked at her disgusting face and paws as she ran throughout the house mudding up everything I just got done cleaning and thought....Yep, I'm happy with what I have.
