Will you say a puppy prayer for my Finch?

Finch, who is 4 months old, is being spayed tomorrow morning. I know I will be a wreck while it is going on. We had our 2 year old, Scout, spayed and she did fine, although they had to give her extra pain meds. I sholdn't be nervous, but I can't help it.

Will you say a puppy prayer for Finch? Thanks!

I know how you feel, Shoe.....it is always hard knowing our little :halo: 's will have to endure surgery and pain.

Of course, you and Finch will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Let us know how she does....

Of course, Shoe. Who can not worry? We'll worry for you, so you don't have to. Nah, I don't believe it either. What I do believe is that Finch will be running you ragged before you know it. Take care, be strong, she'll be back to you soon.

I'm here for you too, Shoe. I'll keep Finch in my thoughts and prayers today. My middle cairn, Abbey bounced right back after she was spayed. My dh will be spaying Hannah when she gets around 6 mths. He says it's always harder when you're doing surgery on your own baby.

Consider it done! I was the same way with Madison. It's such a routine operation that I felt silly worrying but couldn't help it. You're doing the best thing by having her spayed. Let us know when she's up and being a "cairn" again :)

Shoe,

I know exactly what your feeling! I had Scotch neutered on June 10th, I was a nervous wreck, I was so afraid of losing him. I dropped him off that morning and worried until they called and when Dr. Calliouet called to say he did fine, I was so happy to hear her voice. I stopped by that afternoon to see him, since he had to stay overnight for observation, and he looked a little tired but was ready to come home with me. So I loved on him and left for the night. The house had never felt quite so empty. So the next day when I picked him up the biggest thing was trying to get him not to jump! Other than that he was my little boy again.

Finch will do fine, just don't letter her see you scared, just love on her and let her know everythings going to be okay.

I will keep her in my prayers, and her scared mommy!

My thoughts and prayers are with you and Finch too Shoe! I'm sure everything will be just fine. We can't help but worry when our little ones go through these surgerys.

Thanks everyone for the prayers. The vet just called to let me know that Finch's bloodwork came back and Finch has a low white blood cell count! They said it was significant, but not alarming and they want to start her on antibiotics so she doesn't get an infection. Does anyone else have a dog with a low white blood cell count? This was not the news I wanted to hear!

The vet just called, and Finch made it through the surgery just fine! I am so relieved! I can pick her up at 5:30pm tonight. :)

So glad Finch is through w/ surgery and that you'll have her home in a few hours. I asked my dh about the low white blood cell count. He said her count could be naturally low or she could be getting over a viral infection. He said he would have put her on antibiotics too. If it had been too low, your vet probably wouldn't have done the surgery so I'm sure it's nothing to worry about.

Thanks for all the well wishes for Finch. She slept n my arms most of the evening. The vet said she also had diarrhea, but she didn't have any last night. She was very quiet and whimpered every once in awhile. I picked up a "guilt" present for her and she snuggled with that (when her older sister didn't have it in her mouth!).

She is much better today and has started on her antibiotics. I'm trying to keep her quiet, but you know how hard that is to do. She sees the vet next Friday. Boy, am I glad this is all over!

Hi Shoe,

Glad everything went well w/ Finch. Abbey, my middle cairn, did great after being spayed and never messed w/ the sutures. I did apply some Banguard because I didn't want her messing w/ the incision. My oldest cairn, Kiara decided to take the sutures out after 3 days and was successful w/ enough to make a 1/2" opening. She had to get a couple staples put in and Kiara ended up wearing a collar which was so pitiful to see her in.:( In a few months I'll have one more to go through this with and then that's it for me for hopefully a long time.

Finch has been whining today. It was too late to take her to the vet by the time I got home from work. She isn't whining all the time, but she whimpers time to time and looks very uncomfortable. Can I give her a baby aspirin? I've heard of people giving their dogs this, but do not want to unless I know it will be safe. Her stitches look fine. They are not red and do not look swollen. Finch is not very active, which I think is good. I don't remember Scout having this much discomfort and she seemed to bounce back quicker.

Shoe....our little guy was very uncomfortable for a few days. But, the vet gave us prescription pain meds.

Not sure if you should give baby aspirin or not? Is there an emergency clinic open that might be able to take your call and advise you?

Or, page your vet.....I would if you feel that she is hurting that much.

Sorry I can't help more....let us know how she's doing soon.

Shoe,

How is Finch doing today? I'm guessing that like us humans, some dogs heal less quickly than others, and Finch might be one of those. I would hesitate to give any type of human medication unless the Vet ok'd it, especially since Finch was on antibiotic. Hope she is feeling better today. Keep us posted.

I am happy to post that Finch is doing MUCH better today!! She is not whimpering anymore and is back to her perky self! She is learing how to "stay" from her puppy class and I can proudly state that after 3 lessons, she will "stay" in one spot while I walk around the coffee table!
