Linda
Hi. I'm looking for some advice on Dog Booties. I'd like my two Cairns to have better traction on our sailboat. Poor little guys seem to slip all over. When sailing they are harnessed in & have limited roaming ability; when anchored they wear their life preservers & walk freely but they still slip & slide. I've done a bite of research on Boaters websites to find Dog Booties/Shoes and have come up with a few. But most are fleece-type & way too warm for southern climes. Any recommendations from Cairn owners? Linda (AKA: Murphy & Trapper's mom)
bradl
No experience there, but it's a fascinating question! I'm picturing a little guy scampering around in set of tiny Sperry Topsiders (with built-in rawhide chews). At shows I've seen at some vendors some kind of spray-on gunk - this, for example - that supposedly stops feet from slipping on concrete or slippery show surfaces -- I wonder if something like that might help a bit? wags
About 30 years ago, I got my stepmother rain boots for her schnauzer. That was his first experience with them, and he walked as if he were a centipede. Each foot went its own way. I suppose he needed time to get acquainted with them. MikeC
Hi, I was in Premium Pet this past weekend and saw some rubbery booty type foot coverings for dogs. Don't know if you have Premium Pet in you neck of the woods. If so you might try. Most likely though, any pet superstore might have them. Good luck. Eliz222
I bought baby booties for Scout's feet last winter. She will NOT go outside if it is really cold and there is snow on the ground! I didn't want to spend alot of money and I thought this would work. Scout didn't like wearing them, but she kept them on. I used velcro tape to keep them on. Maybe you could find some booties that have the "no slip" bottoms??
CarCarDawn
Hi! I have a set of leather ones with the non-slip grids on the bottom - - - as soon as I get one on and start to work on the second foot - - - the first one is off - - and so on and so on - -- I have yet to get all four on and have Riley actually take a few steps - - he hates them!!! toomanypaws
When I was in grade school my grandma had a toy poodle that had her own wardrobe. I can remember this raincoat w/ matching boots and the minute my grandma put the boots on, the poor dog stood there and would plop right to the floor spreding her legs to the side. She refused to walk in those little rubber boots. They slipped on and had an elastic strap to wrap around the leg and snap, easy to get on but the dog would not budge in them. That was many years ago so maybe a more comfortable bootie has been made. <img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/1003/maiwag/terriersiggy.jpg" border="0" class="linked-sig-image" /> Beth, mom to Ninja (5), Hannah (7), Abbey (7 1/2), Kiara (10)
bradl
I wonder if vet-wrap would make a quick and easy 'disposable' bootie? CAIRNTALK: Questions? Linda
Thanks, all! Excellent ideas. I will try out that spray on stuff & see if it helps. Might be best way to go if some many of your dogs have/had issues with wearing the darn booties (it's bad enuf I have Doggles for them too). With the spray they might have an easier time staying IN the boat but feel freer. But I'm torn as I thought that the booties would also help when walking on hot sand. Maybe I'm being too protective. How would anyone know IF hot sand bothered them anyway? Linda (AKA: Murphy & Trapper's mom)

Linda
CallisMom, thank you very much!! Some may call it obesssion. But I love the pups so there's not much I won't do for them to help them be well-adjusted & happy. I'll have to figure out how to attach a pic of them with their dog goggles & booties on! Logansmom
Oh my gosh you all, I am checking the site during a stressful day here at work and I must confess. I have tears I am laughing so hard All of the visuals of these dogs and their booties...... My Westie broke her leg last year and she walked well in the cast but I was concerned about it getting wet so I put a baby bootie on that foot. She is an accomplished three legged walker now. She REFUSED to put that foot down. I've never seen a cleaner baby "booty". I can only imagine a Cairn in boots. Oh pelase send pictures when you can.
