House Training - Complete at What Age

Each dog is different of course, but usually under good conditions, a pup should be house broken by 6 months (with occasional accidents). It depends on how much time you give to taking him out, and what kind of commands you are teaching him about going out. By 4 months, he should understand 'outside" or whatever word you say to let him know what you want. Our 3 month old male, MacDuff, understands "outside" and is even learning to ring a small bell at the door because we don't always hear him whine to go out. This is exciting for him, too. For this breed, making everything fun and exciting is a real challenge. We are retired so we have lots of time to train him, and that is really the key. If your pup is normal and healthy, it is really you who is being disciplined for his needs. Fun huh? It sure is stretching us. Hope this helps some.
