Smokey&Sara
Hello... My 1 year old cairn, Sara, has a very gross problem. She eats poop! At first it was the litter box poop.... I got an automatic litter box, so that solved that problem,.... until I notice she is eating poop outside from the other dogs. GRRRRR I strongly suspect that she is actually becoming over weigt bec of all this extra poopoo she is eating. I have another cairn same age that is very lean and trim (of course he is also very active). I asked someone at Petsmart about this... and they mentioned something about a disorder called copraphagia? but i cant find anything about it on the internet. He also said there are pills you can take to make the poo poo takes nasty to the dog. Help! anyone know what to do? I have 3 dogs, so Im not likely to go out with each of them on a leash and pick it up after each time. Thanks! Brandi

Oh, there's plenty about coprophagia (Google provides results for either spelling) My favoite line from an Australian site: A tendency to eat faeces (known scientifically as copraphagia) is so common in young puppies that it is considered normal behaviour If you don't want to clean up after three dogs in advance, all you have to do to limit access to the buffet is ensure the snacker is on leash.
