Training Book

Congratulations on your imminent puppy. My sincere suggestion is to buy several books! There is no one best book -- the key is which approach works best for you, your family, your situation, and your particular dog. A few books I especially like are Rutherford's How to Raise a Puppy You Can Live With, Kilcommons' Good Owners, Great Dogs and Mother Knows Best by Carol Lea Benjamin. :book:

There is lots of training information available online. I also got a video on training and booklet from Purina's website for free. (I'm not affiliated with Purina in any way). Just trying to save you a little money. Kate

I am with bradl on this one - Mother Knows Best by Carol Lea Benjamin is fantastic. It teaches you not only how to train your puppy but also how to tune into the little signs and signals the puppy gives you. Most people are oblivious to these signals but this book really spells it out for you and will help you a lot - esp with housebreaking and crate training.

Good luck!

:) Thank you for the information about the book. We are in the process of getting a Cairn rescue newborn and need all the help we can get.

My husband and I haven't had a little puppy in almost 30 years. He was born just this past Sunday. We have already seen puppy pictures and have fallen in love with them all. :halo:
