NEED HELP

Ok.....I have a really serious problem witth my Carin. He is almost two years and for the past 10 months or so, he has been acting really crazy. He can be sleeping or just laying on the floor and chewing his bone and he suddenly jumps up and acts like he is scared to death. he will almost run in circles and he will quiver like he is cold and then he will pant like he is hot. He tries to get into really small opening like he is trying to get away and hide. He sleeps in the bed with us but he acts like he is going crazy. I have taken him ot the vet and he is on phenabarbital medication but that seems like it is not doing anything.......last night he went to bed and woke us up about two this morning and was acting really crazy again. We tried to comfort him for almsot two hours. i finally had to put him in the basement so we could at least get a little sleep. He went crazy in the basement. He spilled a gallon of gasoline, tore up some insulation, tried to get behing the freezer......trying to get inot a small place so he can hide. Needless to say, the gasoline has totally smelled up the house, and I was up at 4 a.m to try and clean up the mess...I doubt that he licked any of the gasoline because I can/t smell it on his breath or around his mouth.....I really don't know what to do and the problem seems to be getting worse..........any help PLEASE...thanks.

Hi John!

I don't know if this applies to your Cairn or not - - my puppy was only 4 months old when he exhibited some of these symptoms - - he kept trying to hide in small spaces and wouldn't let me hold him. He would try to fit into the craziest spots - - finally after many, many trips to the vet - - they diagnosed him with a "liver shunt". This may not be your dog's problem - - but what I am thinking is that maybe there is a "physical problem" that needs to be addressed. I ended up getting a referral to Cornell University where they have many, many specialists and he will be operated on the 16th to remedy his condition. I am just suggesting that you may want to try the vets again or maybe get a second opinion. Hope things work out for you!
