I guess its to each his own, but i take some yogurt treats with me outside and as soon as he goes, i give him a treat and tell him hes great and play with him.

is there a better way or does anyone have any suggestions....

Besides using treats, we also use the verbal ... she loves positive reinforcement! Treats worked well when initial potty training, as well as other commands. The key was to treat IMMEDIATELY for anything we wanted her to repeat!

I like that you play with your dog too ... I know that our Meli sees that as a treat in itself!
