Chewing on rocks

Do any of you have Cairns who chew on rocks! George & Gracie both love to chew on rocks. They even have favorites. I've tried taking them away and replacing it with a chew toy, but they always go back to the rocks. George has actually worn down one of his teeth and he isn't even 7 months old.

Please help! We have lots of $ invested in river rock. Iwould hate to have to move it all again.

Depends a bit on your situation. We have river rock too and have had puppies who like to crunch on them. If we couldn't simply keep after them in order to prevent them from picking them up in the first place, I'd use temporary fencing to keep them out of the area altogther until this phase is past.

Meli is also a fan of red lava rock ... She loves the stuff! We have tried keeping her out of it, taking it away (and replacing it with a treat), and scolding. Nothing seems to phase her enough to make her want to stop altogether at this time (she is six and a half months). I'll just hope, like you, that our dogs will grow out of this.
