Thinning hair on head

jackinthebox

Recommended Posts

We took Jack to be groomed today and the groomer said his hair was coming out in clumps on his between one of his ears and his eye. The Skin looks pretty red and tender. He hasn't and doesn't scratch the area. He has not had allergies.

 Any advice?

Hi and welcome to you and Jack. How old is Jack and how's his coat condition generally?

Just one possibility ... If Jack was carrying a dead coat with minimal undercoat, it is entirely possible for the dead coat to be pulled out (even combed or brushed out) which can leave thin spots and irritation depending on his skin sensitivity. Likewise a full strip of a dead coat will sometimes leave some nearly bald areas (around armpits for example but potentially anywhere). Dead coat comes out very easily.

Hi, thanks for answering.

Jack is 8 and coat is very good. He wasn't to the groomer in a while as it has been winter here and chilly. I think you may have gotten it. I'll keep an eye on it, but you have eased my mind on it.

Thanks!!
