remltr
Sassy had her annual check up last Saturday. It included a stool sample for testing. Got a voice mail from the vet on Thursday saying that she tested positive for Giardia. He mentioned that if her stools are solid there is no need for treatment. And they are, so I have not been too concerned. I have yet to actually talk to the vet. I am looking for advice (based on your real world experience) from all of you non-vets whether I should get her treated anyway. 1 Quote Sassy Jan 22, 2005 AM. CH. Guest dog person
Have you spoken to the vet? From what I understand, dogs can test positive for giardia and be asymptomatic. I would get more information from your vet regarding the need for treatment or not. Is your dog a carrier? I have heard that may be a possibility. Are humans and other pets in the household at risk? Let us know what the vet advises.
remltr
I did talk to the vet on Tuesday. Even though Sassy is showing no symptoms it has been decided out of an abundance of caution to go ahead and treat Sassy with a once a day for six days powder to be sprinkled on her food. Not sure what it is called. I will know more today when I swing by the vets office to pick it up. No other pets and just me as an upright. 1 Quote Sassy Jan 22, 2005 AM. CH. hheldorfer
I suppose that's good news. You certainly don't want to take any chance with Miss Sassy. Hope all goes well!
