gnr9933
Hi all, Just saw my 8-month old puppy bleeding and her vagina is swollen. She can't have hit "puberty" yet, right?!? Coz she's only a baby!!!!!! Is this normal? How long will she be bleeding for? Should I be worried? Should I keep her inside in case some other dog jumps the fence & tries to hump her? Idaho Cairns
While six months is considered early it is not rare, especially, I understand, in small breed dogs. Guess the range is anywhere from six to twenty four months for dogs.
josie&holly
Ivy had her first season just over 8 months. The season lasts three weeks and during that time she is sexually active, in other words she could mate if a male dog happens to mount her. Therefore you need to keep an eye on her when she goes to do her business in yard/garden.When you take her for walks I suggest you drive away from your home and ensure that there are no males around! You can get a spray from pet shop to use on her rear which stops any smell supposedly! You can also buy doggy nappies for them to wear but Ivy pulled it off so I gave up and she had very little discharge actually. I just put old towels down in her beds etc in case of any staining. Mind you Ivy did not appear to have any smell but it is possible that it was apparent to other dogs though.... If having her spayed then arrange appointment for in 13 weeks time as that is considered the best time to do so. If not having her spayed then expect another season in about 6 mths! 1 Quote www.cairnterriertalk.co.uk
pkcrossley
sounds like your baby is now a young lady. it might be good to take her to the vet anyway just to have a checkup and make sure everything is normal --and plan for the future.
