How do I add/change the signature on my avatar?

For future signature searchers: from your user menu at the top right, choose Account Settings, then the Signature tab.

Both are very cute! So, how do you add a little photo or image with your profile name -- is this what you mean by 'avatar?' I'd like to add a photo but can't seem to figure out how to do so.

Yup, you got it. Your avatar is your photo or an image to represent you.  

To add your own, from your user menu at the top right, choose Profile,. That will open your profile page. Then click the tiny image icon near where the photo goes. You will have several options for ways to associate a photo. The most common method is to simply upload your own image. The image below shows the steps.

Be sure the photo you are using meets the file size limit listed. There are some file resizing/editing resources listed in Forum Support if you don't know how to do that. Best to start a separate topic if an existing one doesn't help.
