Looking for a good groomer recommendation in Raleigh NC

Hi everyone,

We get our little guy hand stripped and we originally started going to PetCo as one of the groomers owns Cairns and we thought it would be a good fit.

She is a wonderful groomer, but I want to see if there are other options out there.  Anyone have any recommendations for groomers that understand hand stripping, and how to keep our little guy looking adorable?

Are you willing to drive to Indian Trail?  I know someone there who is fantastic.

As usual my generic recommendation is to go to dog shows and talk to as many of the double-coated terrier breed exhibitors you can. Some will be owner-handler exhibitors and some subset of those may groom "on the side" a bit for the extra income. Or they may be able to provide a recommendation or pointer to someone they know who will do a credible job on a Cairn and who may live within a distance you're willing to drive.

It's also entirely possible to groom your own dog. The learning curve can seem daunting at first but it is not fundamentally difficult and terrier coats are generally very forgiving.

Thanks so much for your quick response.  Indian Trail is a bit of a trip for us.  Coincidentally my sister lives out there so I know exactly where it is.  It seems like Cairns are not a real popular breed here in NC.  I can't find any clubs or anything around here. Raleigh-Durham area is best for us. Cary, Chapel Hill and Wake Forest are also options.  I'll check the local area for dog shows coming up and see if I can get a recommendation.

PM sent.

I would love to know of the cairn terrier groomer in Indian trail. I am in dire need of someone that knows how to groom my pup.

It's been a few years and lost track :) I think he's still in NC if not in Indian Trail specifically.

My best advice these days would be to attend dog shows in the vicinity and watch for an astonishingly fit older gentleman (sorry Ed but if I'm older, so are you :P)  showing Scotties. If it's Ed, you found a great terrier groomer.
