remltr
Instead of catching fish he is trying to save them. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5EpVdVAFL14 1 Quote Sassy Jan 22, 2005 AM. CH. THARRBARR LITE MY FIRE ZOMERHOF
Malcolm's Dad
Aww what a good dog. He wants to help the fish. Somebody has to keep them going so Packy can get them later.
tlwtheq
The implications of that behavior are astounding. The clip makes it look like the pup knows they belong in the water and wants to put them back. On the other hand, the unfortunate fishies might have expired some time ago and are a bit "fragrant", and all the pup has to cover them up with, given the concrete surface, is the little bit of water he can scoop up. I'll put a mark in that column. Quote Max and Nelly
kjwarnold
Packy has analyzed this video and told me that the dog is trying to moisten the dead fish to soften them up and make rolling in them an even better experience. Dry dead fish don't let you get the full aromatic effect. While he (Packy) doesn't roll in dead fish himself (thank God!), he knows many dogs who enjoy the experience. He's too busy catching them to bother rolling in them! 3 Quote Jandy and my Cairns, Kirby & Phinney
Hillscreek
Excellent analysis Packy. Angus thinks dog might also be preparing to bury them for later rolling fun! Of course pretty hard to bury anything on concrete with only water to cover
hheldorfer
Thank heavens Packy was available to provide an expert opinion. I tend to agree with him. It is widely known that *moist* fish are the best for rolling.
Lupinegirl
I've never seen a dog flick water with its nose before, but that is the same "burying" behavior I've seen Nikki do with his bone and the blanket I leave on the floor for him. My husky did the same thing with his bones, using dust bunnies. My husky had a permanent pink spot on his nose because he scraped it across the floor or couch or anything he was on repeatedly until his bone was buried. He didn't even seem to mind when the top of his nose bled from all of that scraping.

hheldorfer
It just occurred to me [*thwacks self on head*]: Of course he's burying the fish! Aged, buried fish beats anything else on Earth for rolling!
