kjwarnold
An acquaintance posted a FB message on Saturday about their lost Pug. He's 9 years old, wandered off from their house and needed meds because he has seizures. We went out and helped search for an hour in the UTV with Packy & Kirby. We had Packy bark along the way thinking it might "call" the dog. It's worked for Packy before so we tried it again. No luck that night though and the dog was out all night. The dog was located the next day. Here's what gets me. Well, a couple of things. The dog did not have a collar or tags. I guess they let him out to go potty on his own all the time and he's been wandering lately. Now, I understand that some Pug owners don't use collars on them because of trachea issues? But gosh, can't they use a harness instead to be sure the dog has identification and people know it needs meds? But that's not what really gets me. The dog wandered down to a dock down the road a ways. These people took this dog with them on a boat ride to another house 35 miles away, where he spent the night. They brought him back the next day day and apparently heard people were looking for the dog. Who does this??? Who sees a dog walk up to the, near their dock, decide to take it along on a boat ride and keep it all night??? Granted, there were no tags but dogs do get away. Why not call around to police, shelters, vets. Ask neighbors? Sheesh! So luckily the dog did not have a seizure while it was out partying with his new friends, so it all ended okay. You can bet Packy and Kirby got a good talk about the dangers of running off. Even though they always wear collars and are always on leash. And Packy would never go farther than his own dock because his fish are there. Quote Jandy and my Cairns, Kirby & Phinney
hheldorfer
Some people just don't *think*, do they? How stupid was that, taking a strange dog far away to spend the night instead of attempting to find the owner? The owners could have made things a lot easier by simply putting a collar or harness with tags on the dog. Oy!
Malcolm's Dad
That is weird. Good thing they came back the next day with the Pug. I've heard of Pugs having trachea problems too but don't know about what kind of collars to use on them. Is the Pug microchipped? I think medical info can be put in the microchip database, don't know much about that either. What were these people thinking? Oh well, the Pug is home. The owners might keep a closer eye on it now. pkcrossley
eek, glad it came out alright (that was pure luck). this is why i feel sorry for dogs --they are at the mercy of clowns who let them wander around with no ID and then take them overnight to other locations (just as a trial live-in?). beccadiane374
One of my biggest pet peeves is people who do not have ID tags on their dogs. I think it's one of the cheapest solutions to avoiding heartache. Quote Becky & Tanner
Sam I Am
Unfortunately I think the people that don't bother with some kind of identification on their dogs don't care and heartache doesn't come into the picture much.
