This is a joke I was told many years ago and the posts about gourmet meals and gerbils has reminded me of it even though it is not about cairns or any dogs! -

A whole family of mice died and went to heaven. When they got there, St Peter asked what would they like best. The father said well, we have always had to do a lot of running around so we would like something to make it easier like roller skates. St Peter said then you can have them!
Short time later a cat died and went to heaven and St Peter asked him what he would like, his reponse was that he had always had to sleep on hard wooden floors so a comfy bed would be lovely! St Peter said that is no problem.
A while later St Peter visited the cat and asked if he was happy and the cat said oh yes, such a comfy bed and meals on wheels provided too!!
