Grooming x2.....

Sam I Am

Recommended Posts

Well today is going to be official grooming day for Jock , who has been neglected in as far as coat maintenance since Ms Rosie hit the scene. He looks like a little a scruffy old man...adorable, but very scruffy. He hates being groomed and its always a test of patience for me and a snarling fest for him. But the one I am not looking forward to grooming today is Rosie', the scotty pup, it will be her first experience with clippers! I have been brushing her for weeks now and it's like trying to hold on to jello. I never had that problem with Jock because he was a month older when we got him and the breeder had worked with him already. Unfortunately Rosie's breeder is 11 hrs away...so that's not going to happen! Plus also a Cairns coat is supposed to look a bit wild, while a Scottie's coat is way more formal. I am not going to strip her or use the Mars come on her as I do with Jock.

Any words of wisdom and tips on how to use clippers on a 4.5 month old puppy would be very much appreciated. :)

I use to shave my puppy puddle myself, his little paws, and face. Not hardly the same as working on a Terrier, as Terriers are smart enough to know they don't have to let you.  I used a very short leash to help hold him. Like I said not the same as working on a Terrier.

We have a groomer strip Jagger and Eddie a couple of times a year. We clip their butts, trim eye hair and nails every few weeks ourselves. We do both of them in about 20 minutes. DH holds, while I trim and there's lots and lots of treats involved for distraction and rewarding good behaviour.

Good luck! And feel free to share before and after pics!
