naden
New reality series is looking for 10 'Dorothys' and 'Totos' (but they don't have to be Cairns). The 'Dorothy' winner will get to star in the Canadian production of Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Wizard of Oz. Too bad that the dogs aren't going to get the same shot. Trials are this weekend in Toronto. Read more at: http://www.toronto.com/article/731479 Edited June 5, 2012 by naden

Hobbes
From the article: “We’re looking for a dog that embodies more the spirit of Toto than anything else.” --- They didn't elaborate on what the 'spirit of Toto' refers to. From what I remember from that movie, Toto was always either handheld or in a bag...
Autumn & Lola
<<They didn't elaborate on what the 'spirit of Toto' refers to. From what I remember from that movie, Toto was always either handheld or in a bag>> Oh my no! Toto escaped from the mean bicycle-riding lady and found his way home. I think he discovered the Scarecrow, who became Dorothy's first real friend in Oz. He helped Dorothy escape the Wicked Witch by running down a flight of stone steps, jumping over a moat from the drawbridge that was closing, and ran miles to find her friends. I also believe he chased off a few flying monkeys and distracted some guards, but my memory is a bit fuzzy. He uncovered the "Wizard of Oz" behind the curtain. And I believe, he bit the witch (hee he I remember reading that Toto got paid more the actors who played the Munchkin extras. Well, duh, TOTO was in nearly every scene! eastofeden
Actually if you watch the move the only time Toto is ever in a basket is when he gets put in the basket by Miss Gulch. This is then attached to her bicycle from which he escapes. There are a few scenes where he is carried...but most he is on the ground.
