Doggie door/flap

Autumn & Lola

Recommended Posts

Any advice? We are looking for a dog door/flap and would appreciate any suggestions, pros and cons of different types, etc. The yard that it would lead out to is very secure (we have a brick enclosure). I'm getting a bit overwhelmed at all the different kinds and locking systems.

Thank you for any advice you can give us!

Unfortunately I don't have any advice on doggie doors - as we have a wrap-around porch and a gate that blocks the stairs. How is little Lola doing since coming "home"? Hope she is adapting well to her new surroundings.

We installed a Hale Pet Door about 7-8 years ago and haven't had a single problem with it. All the people in my office have used this brand and everyone loves them. It's a "double" flap which ensures further protection against critters and weather. Overall great quality.

The one we have is a wall model but they also carry door and screen models. There is a security board you can put in it when it's not in use.

we have two dog doors installed, they are the locking type. You can completely lock them, allow only IN, or allow only OUT.

My suggestion is to install in an area where you won't mind a draft, the dog door we have leading into the garage does get a cold air draft in the winter, but it's in an area of the house where we aren't sitting so it doesn't bothter us.

Good info, all. We are still investigating this option. Probably won't be making a decision for another month or so.

Thank you for the info. :)
