"Poop Happens" ....

Recommended Posts

Got a question, but first a huge thank you for all of your help and your great sense of humor regarding these little devils.

Anyway, Maggie has consistently very soft, not diarhetic, poops. The mornng poop is ok, and it gets softervthroughout the day. She poops as often as 4x a day, three is more usual. Her diet is a good one, Innova puppy, supplemented by some Simply Nourishing canned (usually fish/salmon), no table scraps. Her snacks are limited to carrots and a bully stick. She's been checked for worms, etc and is in great health.

We've tried pumpkin, Perfect Form...they dont seem to help.

The vet doesnt think its a problem right now.

Any thoughts?

Phil

I would lay off the canned food and see if that helps. Kelly can eat 2 or 3 bites of canned food and her poo is a lot softer than normal. I hope someone's advise helps.

Pingber, the first thing I thought of as I read your post was canned food. So I will just say +1 to Lynn's post. Maybe cut back about half on the canned and see if the stool firms up somewhat.

Agree. I think if you look at the percentage of water in canned food you can get an idea why the stools may be loose.

right, loose stools and lots of poop sort of go together. maggie may have a slightly more rapid than usual metabolism (if she isn't gaining weight) and that may even out as she gets older. in the meantime, there are no advantages to canned food for a healthy dog, and lots of disadvantages. get rid of it and see what happens. that will at least give you a better handle on the problem, if it is a problem (it sounds like it is just an individual variation on a theme).
