toomanypaws
All of my cairns are in crates that are just big enough for them to stretch out, stand up and turn around. My youngest is still in a crates for sizes up to 10 lbs and she's now close to 8 lbs. They are only in their crate to sleep and when I work 3 mornings (which they pretty much sleep then too). I give them something to chew on and their favorite toy. They have never had an accident by being in a crate that fits their size. My oldest cairn doesn't use her crate unless there's a thunderstorm and she begs to be put in it. Check the weight of your cairn and then the weight size of the crate for the best result. You may have to buy another crate as your cairn grows, but it's better than having to clean a soiled one everyday. Plus, those extra small crates come in handy. Maybe that's why I'm up to 3 cairns now, I can't stand to store the baby crate. <img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/1003/maiwag/terriersiggy.jpg" border="0" class="linked-sig-image" /> Beth, mom to Ninja (5), Hannah (7), Abbey (7 1/2), Kiara (10)
kayharley
Both my girls have wire crates about 24 X 19 X 21 and that's the size I've purchased for my new puppy. It has a removable divider that I think will come in handy housebreaking him. I've found my 2 Cairns love their crates.....they will go into them on their own whenever they feel the need to nap/sleep/relax/escape. Wish I had a crate... I've never used it as a punishment but more of a time out when I felt they needed to "think of what they're doing" (and it was usually something bad ) I don't lock the door on my older girl but Madison is still capable of creating havoc so she's confined at night but never during the day. I just don't relish her jumping on me at 2:00am because she has the need to play.
Scully'sMom
Kavon, when our trainer told us we had to get a crate, I was so distraught I bought this HUGE thing...LOL!! Back it went. The second one looks to be about the size we have. I believe ours is 24". If you go to this link, it explains how large of a crate you should have. It should be enough for them to be comfortable in. http://www.petsmart.com/global/articles/ar...D=1096933490369 Scully is quite long and can stretch out in hers, but most times she is content to be curled up in a ball. Chewybacca
is there some way to use the one you have but make it a little smaller, I also had the wire crates for my pups with the divider and it worked beautifully because it could be small while they were small and as they grew and were better trained they could have more room... they still love their crates whenever they need their space or just a safe quiet place to nap
kavon
I found a winner; http://www.petco.com/product_info.asp?fami...26+Kennels&ct3= Just picked it up tonight and she loves this one. She went right inside the minute i opened it. It maybe has to do with her being able to see all around her from the inside!?This one 10lb limit -She will get a bigger one after housebroken. Fingers crossed-I hope she wont soil this one up. Let the training begin!!! Thanks for the help...
