Guest NettsAngel
I am in the process of looking at cairn puppies and I know that I will be getting one with in the next couple of weeks. I am trying to get ahead of the game and shop for things I know my puppy will need. What size cage/kennel should I get for my cairn puppy, that will last him as he grows to his full size? I don't want to get a cage that's too big, but I don't want one that is too small either. Any suggestions would be appreciated!
toomanypaws
Hi, I can just imagine how excited you are as you anticipate your new baby. As far a crate size, start w/ a small one at first. Wal-Mart or PetSmart have crates that are a reasonable price, much cheaper than some pet stores. If you buy a crate too big, your pup will use half for sleeping and the other half as a bathroom. The crate should be large enough for your pup to stand and turn around comfortably. The majority of puppies do not like to eliminate where they sleep. I am on my 3rd cairn pup and I always start out w/ the smallest size crate for puppies up to 10 lbs. I'd rather pay the expense of a larger crate when the time comes than the expense of cleaning supplies because the pup started soiling in half of the crate. Not one of my 3 cairns ever soiled their crate by keeping the crate size small. <img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/1003/maiwag/terriersiggy.jpg" border="0" class="linked-sig-image" /> Beth, mom to Ninja (5), Hannah (7), Abbey (7 1/2), Kiara (10)
