Face rubbing

Milopup

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I notice that my pup uses his little paws to pull on/rub his face. He first did this when he started to lose his teeth. He stopped for a while after all his baby teeth were out, but recently he has started again - he is 10 months old now.

Is this just a quirk (do cairns have quirks?) or could it be a problem? I looked at the symptoms for CMO, but I don't think that is what it is (since he doesn't seem to mind when I brush his teeth or when I put my hand in his mouth).

Any thoughts?

Thanks.

Maybe it is a Cairn quirk? Grace (5 1/2 months old) always rubs her eyes and groans a sleepy protest when she wakes up. I just assumed all Cairn's did this.......no????

Hi! Riley exhibits this type of behavior every morning when he awakens - - I never thought it was more than a way of rubbing the sleep out of his eyes!!! And - - - - - it is so darn cute!!!

Duffy will also rub his face with his paws in the morning. I just figured it was some sort of grooming ritual. Seems like it is a common trait with all these little guys/gals.

Out of my 3, only little Hannah does this when she wakes up. It is so darn cute! I love holding her on her back w/ my two hands as she does this and then she will stick her little legs up and stretch, it's so cute!

Grace also uses both paws to clean around her mouth after eating ice cream (yes, I take her to Dairy Queen for baby cones sometimes...). lol. She licks both paws and wipes just like the cat does......I cannot believe how cute this dog is....tonight she was wiggling around on her back on the couch, with all four paws in the air chewing a squeeky toy watching TV.

First thing out of her crate in the morning, Scully either uses her paws on her face or she does the l-o-n-g slide along the rug on either side of her face. Then she's ready to start her day.

My other Cairn, after she would eat, would go into the living room and rub her face along the length of the sofa's skirt, turn around and do the other side. We'd have to tell her it was a sofa, not her own private napkin!

Funny how they do the same little things. NOT funny is that Scully just ran out the front door and took off towards a busy street and around the corner with me holding my side from the appendectomy. Followed by my neighbor who has had by-pass surgery. She would not come or listen to me and it just scares the you-know-what out of me. I know that chasing them will make them run more, so I tried standing still and asking her if she wanted to go in the car but she kept on going. Oh my aching side and oh my aching heart if anything happened to her.

Guest Tototoo

One thing that worked with Toto to get him to come back from a dangerous situation was - I growled at him and bent down took an aggressive stance and he thought I was playing - he ran as fast as his legs could go and attacked me with kisses.

We do the 'rub-a-dub-dub' slide on the carpet here..... :P !

Hi, I'm the lucky owner of a 4 year old cairn who was living outside on a farm. I bought Jack a cute dog bed the first day, he took one look at it and decided he liked my bed better! He sleeps on the left side, the cat sleeps on the right side and anything left over is mine! Every morning starts with the sheet slide, takes quite awhile to get all that sleep rubbed out of his eyes (and everywhere else) and then he's ready for the day! What a great little dog he is!
