Ear Infections

My cairn is just 7 months old and she keeps getting ear infections. She has been tested for yeast and other black stuff that seems to grow in her ears. I finally had to have a deep flush and scraping done one her, which I am sure was none to pleaseant since she has about 8 days worth of pain medication. I am wondering if anyone else has experienced chronic ear infections, if so, what did you do for them. Right now I feel like I am keeping my vet in business. She is talking about testing her thyroid next??? Any info/advice would be greatly appreciated.
