Nipping & Biting

Recommended Posts

I have a 9 week old cairn terrier who loves to nip and bite me and all of my clothes. I have tried everything to get her to stop this, from a shake can to distract her to putting a chew toy in her mouth. When she isn't doing this she is a wonderful puppy.

Please help, I don't know what to do!!!

This is what our trainer said to do and it has worked. The next time your dog nips or bites you should take your thumb and apply a good amount of pressure about midway on the dogs tongue pressing down, not pushing the tongue for about 5 seconds. After just a couple of times your dog will almost never do it again. At the same time tell your dog in a stern voice NO, NO BITING and then give your dog a toy and when it takes the toy tell him what a good boy he is. This just relates biting and nipping to an unpleasant feeling and also relates to the toy being a good feeling. Good luck
