The photo is signed "Fall" indicating the studio of Thomas Fall (1833-1900), a preeminent dog photographer of the era.

Fall's work carried on under the same name at a high standard with a subsequent owner, Edward Hitchings Parker, who was eventually joined by Barbara Bourn, who arrived as an assistant and became an equally talented partner. Bourn carried the firm forward until the late 60's.

Now that's a Cairn Terrier as  I remember them long ago. I grew up in Yorkshire England in the 1950's not too far from where Fall was born. Great photo.
