The Health Related Concerns Committee is hosting an eye clinic by Dr. Simon-Peterson Jones at the Radisson hotel. Needed data for the Foundation’s sponsored OM research will be collected on Friday, Oct. 7, from 8A-12N and 2:45P to 6P on the 2nd floor and again on Saturday, Oct. 8, from 8A to 1P in the 1st floor hospitality area.

Each appointment takes approximately 15 minutes. No other abnormalities are being checked, only OM. No eye dilation is anticipated. Cheek swabs will be used for sample collection. Blood kits (with instructions) will be given, if necessary, for owners to have blood drawn at a later date for return to Dr. PJ at Michigan State University for inclusion in the research. Each owner will be responsible for assisting Dr. PJ during the examination to assure everyone’s confidentiality, however if you need help, volunteers will be on hand to assist you.

Qualifications

  • Cairns over 4 years old, or over 2 if they are related to OM affected dogs. Related dogs may be issued blood kits.
  • All participants are required to bring a pedigree and a completed MSU Ocular Melanosis Opthamology Form, and a signed consent form which will be available at the CTCA web-site or from Linda Heiner at 760-415-6209, email [email protected].
