bradl
Many thanks to all who participated, and congratulations to jimnconnie for the winning entry, which captured in a sly limerick the mischief that is so much a part of life with Cairns. Man From Loch Ness There once was a man from Loch Ness Who was asked if he had on a dress He replied " 'Tis a kilt I'd be wearin' And this fine dog right here is my Cairn I believe 'ye just stepped in his mess." Honorable mention to runners-up It's a Cairn! by mattoleriver, and The Crofter and the Cairn by Greg P. The voting was close. I think this was a hard contest because there were so many good entries that the votes were spread around quite a bit. Good job one and all! If jimnconnie will PM me your snail-mail address, the cast resin Cairn Terrier pen set will be on its way home. Congrats! CAIRNTALK: Questions? jimnconnie
Man From Loch Ness came out of my sleep-deprived mind in the wee hours, after I had just posted the following for Brad's attention: Feb 24 2009, 03:49 AM Post #18 Gee Brad what a great idea, thanks a lot! I went to bed at 11:00 p.m. and laid there wide awake, with all these rhymes going through my mind for 2 hours! It's like having a song in your head that you can't stop repeating. I must have climbed in & out of bed 5 times to make notes, so I said to hell with it, I'll just get up. I wish I had your phone number!! As Brad said, there were a lot of really great entries, and the difference was only 1 vote. Having recently watched the Oscar Awards, I would like to say a few words: " I want to thank the members of the Academy (Forum) I can't believe I won this beautiful Oscar (Cairn Pen Set) I owe it all to my Director (DW Connie), my Producer (Breeder, Cherbo Cairns), and mostly to my Best Actor (Bailey), and Best Actress (Sophie)" Thanks Very Much, Jim PS-- I bet you'll all agree, the hardest thing is trying to find something that rhymes with "Cairn"!! I want to tell you what a pleasure it was for Connie & I to meet you (and Paint & Duncan) when you were in MI for the Detroit Specialty. mattoleriver
Great contest and a terrierific way to honor our pups and, of course, St. Patricks's Day. Trochaic Tetrameter? Trochaic tetrameter will be the new game? St. Patrick's day just won't be the same! Limericks are more fun, A few rhymes and you're done. Face it, Brad, trochaic tetrameter's just lame! bradl
True 'dat, George. Trochaic tetrameter sounds like a medical instrument to me. Although I may be thinking of a trocar. Personally, I prefer haiku Another idea is percolating of a graphic nature that may appeal to our visually oriented members... maybe later this summer. CAIRNTALK: Questions?
