Greg P
I was babysitting puppy Merl today while the DW was out and about. I decided to go outside to work in the garden for a few hours and left Merl in the kitchen area. Now, I figured there was no trouble he get in to. He was confined to the kitchen. I had his belly band on him. I had everything perfectly under control. Here is what I walked in on: He got into a trash can (no real harm done here), but he also found some posters that my DW was making for the Cairn booth for the upcoming Seattle Kennel Club show this weekend. He destroyed about 3 hours of work and he seemed so proud of the job he did. I hope Merl doesn't snore or flop in his sleep. I'll be sharing the dog house with him. Greg P
The other one in the crate appears to be looking on either in disbelief at what Merl is doing or wishing they could join in!! That would be Kula who is recovering from ACL surgery. We have to keep her confined in an ex pen. If she would have been out, she would not have let him do it. She would have kept me out of the dog house! Greg and Val Perry Home of Kula RN CGC, Am. Can. Int'l. CH Cairngorm Coffee Tea or Me RA ME EE2/Can. Idaho Cairns
Chaos, Cairns love chaos--and this is a perfect example! He must of thought he had died and went to heaven when left alone to be creative.
Greg P
Without sounding too stupid, what's the "belly band" for? Not stupid at all. Merl is an 8 month old. He's not 100% reliable in the house with his potty training. Actually he's starting a hormone spike in his development and thinks everything is his to mark. A belly band is material (double thick and stiched along the edges) that holds a sticky panty liner or light day sanitary pad. It velcros around his body. If he makes a mistake, the belly band keeps the house clean. We use them whenever we have visiting dogs, or unreliable dogs. Our 4 year old male is completely reliable except if there is a girl in heat, or another male comes around to hang out. All visiting males wear belly bands in the house. Our males wear them when we go visiting. The dogs don't mind them at all. Now, the visiting girls (spayed or intact) like to mark as well and they are sneakier about it. At least it ends up being a puddle instead of 1/2 way up a wall. They can be created from fun fabric prints. Ours are hand made by Cairn friends. Belly bands can be purcased at dog shows or online. Just google belly band and you should find them. Greg and Val Perry Home of Kula RN CGC, Am. Can. Int'l. CH Cairngorm Coffee Tea or Me RA ME EE2/Can. kjwarnold
Kula does have that look in her eye that says, "Men! This wouldn't have happened if I had been in charge." Separate note, what are the dimensions of your belly bands? I've looked some up and they seem to come in all different sizes. A Cairn size would be nice to see, so I know what might fit our Kirby. He's doing great, but having one to take visiting isn't a bad idea. Jandy and my Cairns, Kirby & Phinney
Kramersmom
Now that is Cairn work! Oh Greg, I hope your not in the dog house too long Hope Kula is recovering well from her ACL surgery. I've seen fatties need up to a 22 inch. Kula is recovering fine. ACL surgery is a long, slow recovery. Greg and Val Perry Home of Kula RN CGC, Am. Can. Int'l. Hagar
Thanks for the explanation of belly the band. I guess we do learn something every day. The closest similar thing I was aware of was a sort of sanitary pants worn by females in heat.
