Jessica H
I am sure you have all figured out I recently got a German Shepherd puppy, Dozer. He is about 5 months old now and he is starting to fit in. Here is what my 2 little terrors do to him (do not forget Dozer is 60lbs.) 1. Gang up on him like piranhas, jumping at his throat while the other jumps on his back. 2. Run around the house and hide under things so he cannot get to them, then they run in opposite directions so he doesn't know which way to go. 3. When he finally catches them they are on the back of the couch where they KNOW Dozer is not allowed so they stay just out of reach. 4. Scooter takes toys and stands in front of him howling, when Dozer chases him he hides under things. 5. When Dozer is in a time out on his bed and told to stay (which he will stay until I tell him to move) they both run by him with their tails straight up, then they bite his ears and run. 6. They steal any bone he is chewing on, sometimes when they all have bully sticks Sadie comes in the room with all 3, Scooter and Dozer following him 7. They steal toys from Dozer that they do not even like, then when he tries to take them back they growls at his so he just sits down (they do not even want the toy, Sadie will fall asleep on the toy) 8. Dozer is in his crate right now (because he got neutered) with a bully stick and somehow Sadie keeps stealing it from him. I think if it pokes out the side of the crate she grabs it and runs. 9. If Dozer is drinking Sadie will basically push him out of the way so she can drink, then she will sit in front of the water dish until she feels he can drink. 10. They are constantly instigating him, even if he is sleeping Sadie will just stare at him until he chases her. 11. Watch where he getting ready to lay down, then they run really fast and lay in that spot. The best part though is when they cuddle together on the bed or clean each others ears. At first I was worried because I expected them all to be close the first month but as time goes by they are bonding. I guess I just need to be patient. They are lucky he is so easy going because Dozer (even though he doesn't realize it) could really hurt them. It is never a dull moment in my house right now, despite the Cairns size they are always the boss (especially Sadie) Jess, Scooter, Sadie and Dozer
pkcrossley
well, we always say that terriers and other dogs are different people living in different worlds. you're running a laboratory in right in your house. poor dozer!

SparkyJonesMom
How funny! It sounds like you have no need for a television. You have all the entertainment you could ever want! Do you feel overwhelmed having 2 Cairns plus another breed? How is it? My DH wants an Aussie of his own, but I have my heart set on another Cairn at some point. I wasn't sure how having 2 Cairns plus a different breed would be. I think my favorite thing they do is run to lay down in the spot that Dozer has just decided on. I can just imagine it! Jessica H
I could have never handled another Cairn. I have always wanted a big, easy to train, mellow, laid back, off lead dog and Dozer is it. He is the perfect dog, he is so mellow, I get compliments on how well behaved he is. I think is has an abnormally mellow temperament. He has been house broken for 3 months (which I cannot say 100% for the Cairns), he has less energy than both Cairns put together (he is 5 months and they are 5 years). He listens to everything I say. If he was not so well behaved I think I would be going crazy. Even when they are all up to no good, if I tell Dozer to stop of come he does immediately, the other 2 just flip me the tail and carry on until they want to be done. They get him so riled up I have to separate them for my sanity because 60lbs running through the house is not so quiet or peaceful. If I had to make the choice again then I would ABSOLUTELY do it. Just try to talk to the breeder and look for a mellow, laid back dog. You will regret it if you don't. Larger dogs tend to be more laid back than little ones anyway. DawnandTuk-tuk
LOL! Good for Dozer being so nice, but he wouldn't have any fun if the the terriorists weren't having their fun too! We had a Great Dane, Honey (cause she was so sweet), and my sister had a husky puppy which she brought over all the time. That little pup loved to jump up and pull on her floppy ears, Honey never got upset. The pup would trip her, run into her, nip her skin, all of it, but Honey just played gently. The bigger they are the nicer they are. She didn't run around though, except in the backyard...125lbs can't get going in the house! Glad you shared all the antics! Napi'smom
LOL!!! sounds very familiar, but I'm sure Sammy is glad we only have one Cairn, Sammy is a lab/Sheppard mix and he is the best dog ever!! and Napoleon bullies him, takes his bones, toys, tells on him when he is doing something he shouldn't but I'm sure is because he can't do it, like eating the cat food from the dish on the counter, as soon as Napoleon sees Sammy going for it, he makes this growl/bark sound that we know what Sammy is up to. They are are so smart!!and so cute!!
