CJ_NY
Hi all, I read up on the AKC Breed standard, and it says "forelegs should not be out at elbows, and be perfectly straight, but forefeet may be slightly turned out" I feel like my cairn's feet turn out more than they "should"; and I was curious what your dogs' feet are like. When she's standing on all fours, they turn out ever so slightly, but when she sits on her hind legs, her front feet seem almost turned out to right angles. Is this harmful/dangerous for later on in life? Does this indicate a bone problem or something to be worried about for the future? Just wondering, sorry if my question is stupid. Greg P
Not a stupid question at all. Remember, cairns are supposed to dig. When standing with straight forelegs and elbows, the feet should be slightly east and west. The front paws should be quite a bit larger than the back paws. All the better to move earth with. I have seen cairns stand with paws virtually facing east and west. This would not be considered good structure. I think the only issue could be slightly reduced stamina on long walks or hunting situations. I really don't think you'll find harmful ongoing health issues.
