COPioneer
Taylor, is, of course my first Cairn. I didn't really know what to expect lol, but I'm adjusting. He's 5 months now. He's getting neutered in only one month! Yikes! He was about three pounds when I got him and he's eleven now. I guess it's common among Cairns, but he makes the absolute strangest noises I've ever heard sometimes. I swear, sometimes he sounds exactly like a Panda. He's my little panda bear. I didn't realize it day to day, but while looking back at his baby pictures, I realized how much lighter he's gotten! I was expecting him to get much darker as he got older, but it was the other way around. All except for right around his mouth/nose. He looks like he has a little beard lol. Now his color matches our lovely Colorado prarie grass lol. Soooo anyway, here's some pictures! Enjoy! His first day home! He had a little case of conjunctivitis, so his eyes were runny and the fur was a little matted down. The result was a scruffy looking baby, but he's all better now! Eating dinner at home Here you can see how dark he WAS, lol First time in the snow And, a few days ago! And him feeding his sock obsession He's sitting on my lap right now, thinking, "Who's that handsome boy?" Lol. He's quite a character!

Vivian
Oscar's my first Cairn too, they grow a little too quick! I often look back on Oscar's pictures of when he first came and compare it with his current self. (He's 11 months right now) I got him weighing 4.2 lbs, he now weighs 15lbs! I can't believe next month I'll have a 1 year old. Savor the puppyhood! Taylor looks adorable! <3Oscar

Fudgie
What a cutie! Like everyone says, enjoy the puppyhood all you can. But keep in mind, they may grown out of the puppy looks, but they don't grow out of the puppy actions!

COPioneer
He is a lovely lad![but read the stuff greg p has put on about early neutering please] Aah, read and noted! Taylor's my first male dog, so I was always a little confused on the subject of neutering. I've heard the earlier the better, and the longer you wait the better, so I just don't know. When we brought him in for his very first puppy check up he asked if we were planning on neutering him. We said yes, and our vet seemed pleased. He told us that they do it at 6 months, and he owns three Westies. I sorta just kinda trusted his judgement as a vet. Now I'll definitely be doing lots of research and asking questions! I think I'll most likely end up waiting, since that at least gaurantees he'll be alright health wise if I'm careful. Thanks!!
mjones
[but read the stuff greg p has put on about early neutering please] Great pictures. I have a male Cairn that will be 6 months on Wednesday. My vet urged me to get him neutered when he was 6 months. I am going to wait until around 1 year based on what I have read on this forum and some other internet research. I know there are arguments either way, but I was disappointed that my vet didn't discuss ANY benefits of waiting past 6 months to neuter. Kind of an eye opener for me. josie&holly
I have no personal interest in the subject of early neutering as Holly is female and was nearly 5 when I had her spayed. But a friend of mine from where I use to live who has two Westies, the male Westie has had problems and until I read the stuff on here from greg p, I had not associated it. But her Westie was neutered at 6 mths as she had him from puppyhood, and then he had joint problems and arthritis by time he was about 4 yrs of age, he is now 8, and she rang me last night to say that the vet had recommended PTS as he was in so much pain. So with that in my mind and reading greg's posts I think it should certainly be looked at carefully. She is obviously upset so I did not mention this - the other Westie was rescue and is very healthy and lively now - she is about 4 yrs of age and was ex puppy breeding so was only spayed about 12mths ago. It is however, up to folk to read the research and decide. I must admit have not heard much about this before I read it on this Forum but have put some information on another Forum I go on. www.cairnterriertalk.co.uk
