steveb
Hi, after 20 years of no dog ownership last night I took home a lovely 8 week old Cairn puppy, we have called him Jack. I got him from a local breeder, I have met his mum and dad, mum is a Cairn/schnauzer (2/3s Cairn, 1/3 schnauzer) dad is a clearly all or almost all Cairn, Jacks brothers and sister all looked VERY Cairn like, but Jack, well, didn't look that "cairn" to me! I've only had two Cairns in the past, and only one from a pup, but I thought the hair on Cairn pups was much longer. There is a couple of pictures of Jack below, so I'd be interested in hearing opinions on this. Either way, we're not bothered, we chose Jack as he had a great friendly temperament and is a very healthy looking and happy dog, but I'd be interested in hearing comments about his look regardless. Thanks. Steve (Ireland)

josie&holly
He is a very handsome chap - looks strongly Cairn to me but they can change so much anyway! www.cairnterriertalk.co.uk
steveb
Hi, thanks for the comments. It's good to know he does look like a Cairn pup, thanks. On the days he doesn't come to work with me he will be spending half the day home alone, he'll have the run of the garden so will have plenty to occupy him, but I am sorely tempted to go and get his sister for company ;-)

pkcrossley
what a handsome boy. he certainly looks cairn enough that people who know cairns will always ask you if he is one. for a cross he's got very nice conformation, maybe a little better than most cairns i know! it would be cute if his ears stay floppy. once he is old enough and confident enough to start putting himself about, you'll know soon enough how much cairn he is. steveb
Been living with Jack for two days now, oh he is Cairn, he is into everything, totally no fear, and he's already dug a few holes in the lawn! Have the landscaper coming round next to quote for paving the lawn over, then he can have some serious playtime out there.

rileyboy
Wow, what a cutie! His short hair looks just like Riley's did when I first got him at just over 8 weeks. Riley is now 4 months and he started getting shaggier around 3+ months. Either way, he definately looks like a Cairn to me. I think you picked a winner! toomanypaws
What a precious pup you have. Many Schnauzer pups have similar traits, but I think his Cairn characteristics are definitely showing. I'm sure his ears will still go up. One of mine weren't quite up even at 16 wks. I'm not sure how you lasted so long w/o a dog. I guess some would say I have too many, but I've seen much worse addictions. <img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/1003/maiwag/terriersiggy.jpg" border="0" class="linked-sig-image" /> Beth, mom to Ninja (5), Hannah (7), Abbey (7 1/2), Kiara (10)
