White Cairn?

Our Jezabelle has just given birth to 4 beautiful pups yesterday. All are spoken for and we are going to have Jezabelle spade when the vet says it's ok to when the pups are fully weaned.

My question is. Is there such a thing as a white Cairn? The first pup to arrive looked very light but after she cleaned it and it dried off it looks totally white. Is it ok to post pictures of puppies if they are already spoken for? The other 3 puppies look Wheaten with dark muzzles and ears.

Cooper and Jezabelle are both full blooded Cairns.

If you want the best seat in the house, move the dog.

The breed standard for the Cairn Terrier says, "Color: May be of any color except white. Dark ears, muzzle and tail tip are desirable." That said, although it is quite unusual, it is not unheard of for a white pup to be born on rare occasions. Ditto for "black and tan" patterned dogs.

You may recall that at one time Cairns and Westies could be sorted out of the same litter, until the Kennel Club prohibited interbreeding of Cairns and Westies.

I remember reading that white Cairns were seperated from litters years ago, hence the "Westies". Here are a few pictures we have since yesterday. We didn't want to upset her by moving the puppies around to take the pics. In the first picture, she is in her beloved doggie bed that she just HAD to have in her whelping area. We eventually removed the bed as the pups kept getting out of it. She actually looks very proud and smiling in this picture lol.

This is a picture of just the puppies...you can tell who is "Snow White" :)

In the first picture, the puppies were about 3 hours old. The second picture is from this morning.

Oh she does look proud of her achievement does't she? I imagine that the "white" one will change colour. Congratulations on your babies Jezabelle!

AWWWW! She does look like she's smiling and proud! The light one looks like she has slightly darkened points and a cream colored stripe down the back. I remember my westie as a puppy having a little pink nose like these puppies.

keep posting the pics! as they grow up!

i agree, i think snow white will be a true wheaten, and the others will be brindles. one can only guess, of course.

if snow white were westie white, her coat would feel a little different (maybe not now) since unpigmented fur is a bit coarser than pigmented.

They are so cute! Congratulations. It will be fun for you to watch how the "white" one develops. I'm fascinated at how cairns continue to change color as they age.

Picture color isn't always true, but your "white" puppy does not appear to be pure white and may just be a light wheaten.

Anyway ... Cairns being Cairns .... you just never know what color the pup will be in a couple of years!

I added some pictures to our flickr site and will try to get new ones in there hopefully at least weekly. It sure is hard to get pictures of they're faces lol. Our daughter bought us a digital camera for an early Christmas present (I think she got it for us cause she wants pictures of the puppies too since she is getting one of them lol ). So forgive us for the fuzzy photos, we're still getting used to using this camera. I hope this link works

I fostered a cairn puppy that was very pale, almost albino, but my vet said not a true albino, just pale. Pink nose and paw pads, and white nails. But a purebred cairn. If I can get the picture off my old computer, I'll post it. Last I heard, she was getting a bit darker. Normal in every other way.

I think Snow White is not Wheaten but rather Creme Cairn Colors you see a picture at this website. Mettwurst is actually a Creme Brindle. He doesn't have any yellow in his coat color like a Wheaten. However his coat isn't what I would call white, see Metty has a true White Patch of Furn on his chest. I really only ever see it when i'm bathing or grooming him, but it's enough of a contrast that I can see what ture white looks like.

It's worth noting that he is turning more silver as he gets older... He has a blue sheen to him at times (and no this isn't any of the blue dye he got into over the summer..LOL I got that all out!)

My DH and I think maybe too he will be a cream color. You can faintly see a liitle cream color where the wrinkles are. We took them to the vet to get thier dew claws removed and have them checked out. The vet said they are all very healthy :). I had to laugh when my DH told me the vets assistant asked if we wanted the tails bobbed when we had the dew claws removed when he called for the appointment LOL . Three of the pups had 4 dew claws and one had only hind dew claws but they were doubles.

I remember reading the blue snow cone story this summer LOL. Usually, the only odd colors we see on the dogs is when Cooper pulls the green fuzz off the tennis balls and it sticks to his chin lol.

This is the latest picture we have.
