Hi, I'm new...and new to Cairn's!

Hi everyone, I just joined up! (Hope this thread is in the right place!)

I am getting my first Cairn puppy tomorrow as an early Christmas present from my hubby!

How exciting is that? I can't wait to post pictures and everything of the little gal or guy

(I have no gender preference)

I've never owned a Cairn before, but I think they are absolutely adorable!

I do own another dog though and it will always be my favorite breed...the poodle, lol.

I own a toy silver poodle named Scooter. I just love him to bits! :)

Anyways...my name is Brittany Burkhardt, I reside with my hubby in Southern Arkansas.

I'm 7 months pregnant and we are having a baby girl in Feb. 2009. I groom my

poodle myself and I'm getting quite good at it! LOL!

Hope to meet you all and see pictures of your Cairns!

Here is some pictures of my poo, Scooter!

Wow, Little Rock? AWESOME! I'm from Warren, Arkansas, only 100 miles from ya! :D

Thanks for the greets everyone! Yes, I did read up on Cairns, it says they are a good family

dog, friendly, lively, eager to please, and craves attention. I've also read up on special

needs (I got grooming in the bag!) and health concerns. They sound splendid! :)

I think the new puppy and Scooter will get along great, Scoot is 7 months old

and the reason I am getting a Cairn in the first place is because Scooter is

extremely lively and hyper and loves to play when he is around other dogs,

I just thought he could use a friend. My family breeds poodles and Chihuahuas

and Scooter is at the age now to become a stud, I've got two bitches already lined

up for him when they come into season. I'm hoping to show poodles in the show ring

some day. ;)

I will post some pictures of the new baby when he/she gets here tomorrow, this is the

one I will more than likely be getting tomorrow. Sorry the picture is crappy, I didn't

take it, lol!

Welcome! You and Scooter are in for years of fun.

It's good Scooter is still young; he and the new pup will

hit it off famously.

Keep us posted about the new family members as they arrive! :D

Boats, that's OK with me to send people to the blog. Skipper had a good idea! I just changed the colors on it the other day to match the Christmas Cairns.

Mercymoon, that little puppy is adorable! I can't wait to see more pictures of him!

mercymoon, welcome to the Forum, and congratulations on both of your upcoming blessed events! It sounds like you already have experience with dogs, so that should help when you get your Cairn pup. It looks like you do a great job of grooming Scooter but, as you may know, the Cairn coat doesn't keep its' harsh texture if clipped, or shaved. The following information may be of interest to you as you begin caring for your new "furbaby". The section "Eliminating or Minimizing Skin Disease" is very informative for grooming Cairns: Cairn Terrier Care and Grooming

Be sure to post lots of pictures of your new pup!

Hi! I just brought home my first Cairn almost two weeks ago (wow, time flies) and joined the forum right after. It has been really fun being on this forum. There is a lot of good advice here. My cairn, Gus, is almost 5 months old. He is such a quick learner. The day I brought him home he knocked his food bowl out of my hand while I was lowering it down to him. It took me only three days to teach him to "sit" and "wait" until I give him the "OK" command when I feed him. I was amazed. He and my 10 year old yellow lab have had no problems and adjusted to each other just fine.

Is this your first child? I have a 3 and 6 year old. My first daughter was a crier and I nearly went out of my mind for 4 months with severe sleep deprivation. I rarely sleep for more than a two hour stretch for the whole 4 months. You may want to focus on training the new pup "no bark". I was always so thankful that my lab was fully trained by the time I had kids. Gus barks in the house occasionally (more than the lab, who never does) and if the kids are napping it really puts me on edge. He's learning quickly though. I've noticed a lot more grumbling than barking lately. I'm taking it to mean that he is realizing that he's not suppsed to bark inside.

Can't wait to meet your new friend. It should really make those last two months of pregnancy go by fast. Bonus!

Yup this is my first baby...so exciting yet so nervous:)

Thats a good idea about not barking, my poodle rarely barks,

but I dunno yet about this new pup!

Hi & Welcome :)

We have two cairns that we just adore and are waiting on the arrival of our first baby hopefully by the 17th or sooner! I'm so ready! We're expecting a little boy - we were hoping for a girl - but hubby got to even the playing field since both our cairns are little girls! He was outnumbered. So double congratulations - it's a great site for advice when you've got a puppy.

So how does Scooter like the new Cairn?

They are getting along wonderfully, Scooter is a bit jealous,

but they both just play and play! :)
