We made a visit to our new little boy last Thursday. Of course it was drizzling when we were there, so I was covered in muddy puppy paw prints. It didn't matter, because he's a real lover and my face was covered in little puppy kisses!

He's 9 weeks old now, so just a few weeks and we can bring him home. He's a very sociable little guy and all three of the pups come when called. I'm sure that won't last -- ;) He's got two little sisters who are just dolls! It's hard to resist taking one of them home, too! I like this picture of him chewing on a root -- he's got that look in his eyes, just like Packy would get as a puppy. By the way, Packy was with us for the visit -- he sniffed the puppies, wagged his tail and let them crawl on him a little, then took off to bark at the farm animals with the puppies' mother. I think he "likes" her! She's his cousin, by the way, so the new little guy is related.

We're really excited and still working on a name. I've got a list of 36 possibles so far! We'll figure it out when we get home. We don't like to name them until we can spend some time to see their personalities. DH kind of likes Leviathon, so you know how much work I have to do...

He is adorable! I am sure this will feel like the longest weeks of your life..It did for me when I was a expecting puppy mamma :) Have fun and post millions of pictures :)

I LOVE MY CAIRNS PUDDLES AND IRIS!

How adorable! It's hard to leave the others behind, isn't it?

I've told this story on this forum before but here goes.

When we picked up Teddy in 2002 the breeder wanted to know

why we didn't want a little girl because she had this adorable sweet

little girl. We just wanted a pup who could give Olie a run for his

money (i.e., a male), thus we brought home Teddy. We never saw the girl pup...

until four years later.

We called the same breeder looking for a little girl. She didn't have any

pups at the time but said her Mom was trying to divest herself of

the Cairn breeding business.

We went to her Mom's place, way off in the woods. There were Cairns

in filthy outdoor pens everywhere. It was really depressing.

The pup she wanted to show us turned out to be Sweet Pea who as it turned

out was the little girl we left behind 4 years earlier.

(We knew when we looked at her pedigree.) She had had several

litters and I guess was of no more use to this "breeder". She also had

contracted lyme disease (she's lyme-free now.)

Everytime I think of that I feel guilty for having left Sweet Pea behind in 2002.

Hopefully, you're dealing with a real breeder and the possibility of what happened

with me won't be true in your case.

Congratulations on the new baby.

Oh, yeah. It's the same breeder where we got Packy and I've been in contact with her for the past 4 years. We see her at shows and she got us started with earthdog. She shows a number of her dogs in conformation, earthdog, agility, obedience and is starting rally. She's actually going to introduce these pups to the earthdog tunnel this week! They're all raised in her house, which is why they're so well socialized. And we've been to her house, so we know what's going on.

You know, I got my first Cairn, Willie, from a pet shop -- he was on sale. I think he was the runt of the little and they couldn't get rid of him. I didn't know any better at the time, but I sure loved that little guy! Now that we know more about puppy mills and pet shop dogs, we're glad we have our breeder. Puppy mills are notorious here in Missouri, as you know.

So anyway, we're getting excited! And he's started crate training, so we've got our fingers crossed that he's a smart boy and will pick that up fast. Packy was crate trained when we got him at 12 weeks -- he slept through the night right off the bat with no accidents. I hope that wasn't just a fluke...

Your puppy is adorable! Hope time flies until you bring him home.

wow you have to waitlong for yours and oh my he is adorable Id take him root an all!

Toby will be almost 8 weeks. she said she could hold him for awhile if I wanted but I didnt want him to have too much fun with all the other dogs and alot of land to roam on. when he gets here he wouldnt be too happy with a 9fairly good size) fenced in yard and only one dog to play with. I didnt want him to be dissapointed.

oh he's adorable! i love 'that' look!

So so so cute!! Its great that Packy did well upon meeting the pup. With all the new tricks the pup is learning, he should surely get some fishing lessons in with his new big bro!

Good luck with the name. I think we had over 20 on our list....my husband wanted to give him some big scary name, too. Like if it is good enogh for a lord of the rings character, its good for a little puppy! Also he liked a name that was the same name as the son of the ONLY other woman who worked in my office, where I was planning to take the dog every day...he didn't understand at all why that would be odd!!! :P
