Posted July 17, 200817 yr Finally- we have all we need for the new pup except the puppy and his food.....their eyes are just opening and sometime the end of aug possibly-early sept. we should have him. the only thing is we narrowed it down to two names -Im sure putting a name with a face will be the final decision but with some comprimising we agreed to two names -(not the greatest but will be ok) Toby one of -my picks originally, and buddy DHs pick for the most part. after I thought about it I can call him Mistys Buddy which may be great in her association with him. which name do you guys prefer(if you HAD to pick one or the other......... I know for the most part they are not particularly names of origin but they will be living in pa sooooo just about anything goes-
July 17, 200817 yr That's interesting. I have never named any of my dogs or cats Buddy, but for some reason I've called all of my male pets "buddy" as a term of endearment, like you might call your DH or SO "honey", "sweetie", or "dear". As in "Hey cute buddy, how's my Charlie doin'?" or I'll say, "You're my little buddy" with a pat on the head. My only female cat "Tess" also got called "missy" a lot, and I find myself calling Desta "little Miss" or "girly-girl" as a nickname. That may be more than you wanted to know. LOL But I vote for Toby as a call name, and "buddy" for an endearing nickname.

July 17, 200817 yr I agree- I like Toby! I, too, call Bruski 'buddy' sometimes - like 'Hey Buddy - whatcha been doing all day?'

July 17, 200817 yr My dear departed Max's mom's name was Misty and when her owner kept her other son, Max's brother, she named him Grizz because he was dark with light tips like a Grizzly Bear. I thought it suited his personality too. When you get to know him you'll find it easier to be certain it's right.
July 18, 200817 yr I really like Toby, and I agree with Chris's Desta, you can call him Toby and Buddy will be an endearing kind of name, Keegan answers to Keegan, puppy, buddy, little guy; he never hesitates to come when called by the alternate names...I think he knows those are all affectionate terms and there's probably something in it for him when you call him by the endearing name
July 19, 200817 yr Author thanx! keep up the good work!! we (I mean you guys) almost have DH convinced. He keeps reading the outcome of this topic.
July 19, 200816 yr We both call our "little dude" (Bailey) buddy as a pet name. We call him buddy on his walks more than we call him Bailey. It just sort of happened one day and I've found myself thinking, Buddy is a good name for a dog..... leading me then to the realization why so many people name their dogs buddy. I also like Toby.... either are great! Kate, Darcy & Bailey's mom
July 19, 200816 yr I like Toby personally, but agree with other posters about the affectionate names. Tuk-tuk also has a slew of nicknames (Tuk, Tucky, Tucky-Duck, little piggy-my DH's, little buddy-my son, rodent-sis-n-law, Took Took-my DH's friends who didn't realize they were mispronouncing his name, etc--don't care for the rodent one myself, but it started as a joke by her and now is the name she calls him) all of which he answers to. Cairns are too fun!
August 9, 200816 yr Author well we won! YAY! his name is going to be Toby and he is a dark brindle not sure how dark he will stay. The breeder sent me pictures 2x now he is soo little and sooo cute. I dont know how to transfer the picture from my inbox to this site or I would. but we will have him sometime after the 19th of this month-will have to change the picture and my name to Misty Toby and sheila Im excited and nervous at the same time. more nervous about my family finding out. they will surely tell me Im crazy. (long story, the timing with moms operation, my brothers allergies and that I dont vacation anywhere because Im always tied down with a pet of some sort) and that is why they wont know untill I have him at least 2 months-then they cant try and talk us out of it! Hey ,,,everyone needs a reason to be happy and a positive diversion from sadness-me and larry will have our furbabies for comforting thoughts. Its good for us to have to focus on something good right now and a cairn pup will surely keep us on our toes. and theres Misty the loveable hunk of fur. and peanut our little smidge of a furball hamster..and of course my community 30 gal tank of tropicals. The breeder says Im going to get my wish as you all know Misty is one big girl(24lbs) this one she was saying she would be surprised if he made it over 11 lbs!!!!!! what a huge difference. he will have his vet check soon and will let me know when he will be available Id say less than 2 weeks. T O B Y-- say it with me-Misty and Toby and peanut! thanks for the name support! may not have been possible without all your comments.
