Posted April 3, 200817 yr As of today, Fudgie is off of house arrest! My brother and his workers just finished fencing our back yard. Fudgie now has the rule of a huge fenced in back yard to run around barking her fool head off and chasing cats and squirrels! When I first let her out, she ran like crazy, then looked around as if to say "hey, I'm not on a leash". She sniffed every corner and then just ran and ran and ran! I got her pool out and she had to cool off, even though it was 50 degrees today. Tonight, she got to chase a cat around. The cat (wild barn cat) always comes to the house to eat. Anyway, he acted as if he couldn't find a way out and Fudgie got to chase him back and forth across the yard about 6 times until he climbed a tree for safety. Had a hard time getting her to come in, but she is now snoozing away. One pooped puppy!
April 3, 200817 yr Woo-hoo Fudgie! Your new fence rocks! My mommy lets me run outside, but she has to stand there and watch us so we don't wander off...haha, I've been watching her freeze all winter long while I find the perfect place to potty. She is so well trained.
April 3, 200817 yr LOL!! Great looking fence... it is such a great thing to just open the dorr and let them out isn't it!! mine love the fenced in yard, my arms are sill sore from diggin the hole for the posts but wsell worth it!!
April 4, 200817 yr That is a wonderful setup...she must be in her glory! How difficult do you think it will be to get her back inside with all that freedom?
April 4, 200817 yr "Oh my gosh the barking!" topic coming in 5...4...3...2... Seriously, nice job on the fence. You may want to consider a lock or even a non-locking but additional closure that reminds people to Shut The Darn Gate! We have friends who have a sign on their fence: "Here lies the body of the last S.O.B. who didn't close the gate." We opted for a somewhat milder sign: "Dogs at Play - Please Close Gate" Plus a lock. April 5, 200817 yr Author So far, getting Fudgie to come in has not been a problem. She is still unsure of her freedom.....enjoying it, but unsure! I know that will change. She is a very busy body. Tonight she got to chase a squirrel for real without coming to the end of her leash and getting jerked at the end into a spin like she usually does. Oh what fun! I have 3 gates in the fence. Two of them will get locks and only used for mowing and bringing in wood. The main gate will have something....a sign, not sure yet. I also had the fence buried all the way around so Fudgie can't dig out. Fortunatley I have a good home builder brother who put the fence in for me. His workers did all the digging of the trench and posts and then filled in the trench after installing the fence. Lots of room to run and lots of room to see the world from every side and guard "her" block. Boy does she do that! Here's a couple more pictures of her in her glory and one of my son taking Fudgie on one of her daily walk/runs! He uses a battery powered cart and we found that using that for her walk makes her happiest. When we walk her, we are way too slow and boring, and she NEEDS TO GO SOMEWHERE FAST!
April 5, 200817 yr Mistys lucky too- she has a fenced in yard and knows every inch! This will be her 2nd summer here and shes loving it! Its great letting her wear heself out ..word of advice -if its raining a leader is advised they get rooted on the smell of worms and mud and you will have YOUR paws full of mud. otherwise its a good thing!
April 7, 200817 yr Ooh jealous. Even if we get a fence, I don't think Valentine (or us) is ready yet. We still need to work on "Come" before we let him roam. Andrew likes to let him run around with him off a leash and then after awhile, Valentine will leave and go to a different person's yard, thus leaving Andrew to chase him around to get him. I keep telling Andrew we need to work on "Come" first and that I wouldn't help to go get Valentine when he runs away when Andrew takes him out. But good for you! That must be a relief knowing your pup's fenced in and can't get out! Amy
April 8, 200817 yr What an awesome setup! I must admit I have been late to work more than once because Xena thought the squirrel in the tree was way more exciting than listening to me telling her to come in. And of course if we go out to get her she thinks the chase is on. Ugh! Our chain-link gate doesn't latch properly and right now we have two bungee cords keeping it shut. I have had to call the lawn guy twice reminding him to shut the gate because inevitably one of the kids lets Xena out when they get home from school and she out like a bullet. I told him the next time it happens he won't be our lawn guy anymore! Hope you enjoy the new setup! Edited April 8, 200817 yr by omahamom

April 9, 200817 yr You got my curiosity up so I took the photo into iPhoto and blew it up a bit. Sure looks like a kitty to me. What a peaceful picture.
April 9, 200817 yr What a nice yard! He's going to love that. I can't imagine not having my yard for my Cairns. <img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/1003/maiwag/terriersiggy.jpg" border="0" class="linked-sig-image" /> Beth, mom to Ninja (5), Hannah (7), Abbey (7 1/2), Kiara (10)
April 10, 200817 yr Author The orange critter is a cat. The cat adopted us this past winter. He was little when he showed up and he never left. For some crazy reason, Fudgie and the cat get along fine. Any other cat within viewing distance better look out though! And, the cat goes on walks with us. I think he thinks he is a dog. I've always been much more of a dog fan than cats, but this one is too nice not to like. I don't think he has a mean bone in his body. Now, Fudgie on the other hand...................................ha ha!
