Ferret houseguests

I watched a friend's 2 ferrets for 2 weeks and I got complete opposite reactions than what I was expecting from my furbabies.

Sadie wanted to lick them ALL the time, she loved them so much and she couldn't figure out why they would hide from her when she tried to chase them down to give kisses. Eventually Sadie and one of the ferrets would both lie on their backs and bite each others faces. They would hang off of her face, she spent the 2 weeks standing next to the cage whining and trying to fit her paws thru so she could reach their food.

Scooter on the other hand....

He was afraid of them, he would go out of his way to walk WAY around the cage, he wouldn't go near the baby gate while they were in a separate room playing, I put him in with them and he tried hiding in the corner. If he was at the baby gate watching he would slowly back away when they came close. The door the dogs use are in that room so I would lift the dogs over the gate to let them out, Scooter would RUN out the door but when he wanted to come back in he would peek around the corner and see the ferrets and HIGH TAIL it back downstairs. It was so funny, he would stand at the bottom of the stairs and refuse to come up cos he knew they were inside waiting for him. I had to eventually carry him in.

So so much for my little terriers.

I have come to the conclusion that Scooter is either a BIG BABY or he just didn't want to be bothered and Sadie loveseverthingwantstokissthem....

What a sweet girl Sadie is. The way mine act around squirrels and chipmunks, I'm afraid they would have made fur coats out of them. Glad all went well.

That's so funny! I have two ferrets and my Cairn, Buddy sounds just like Sadie. He is obsessed with pestering them. If they are trying to sleep in their cage, he will reach his paw in and poke at them. My Great Dane, Tanner on the other hand is just like your Scooter. He is a HUGE baby. He can't get away fast enough from the little critters that are the smaller than his tail!

It's always fun to see how different species with interact.

We don't only have ferrets as pets, I recently started a ferret distribution business selling high quality ferrets in my state from a couple private breeders from the north. I've posted pictures before of my Cairns w/ the ferrets. They aren't sure of them. Abbey wants to play w/ them, and Hannah acts afraid. Kiara is very hesitant w/ them. I have found that my Cairns seem to understand the difference w/ our indoor "pets" verses the wildlife outdoors.
