Rob D.
Are there classifications in most dog shows for "sexually altered" (neutered) male dogs. If so how do they work although the dog is "not" all there.
bradl
I'm probably the wrong person to answer this, but I see no experienced show person has stepped forward. So far as I understand it, neutered/spayed dogs are not eligible to compete in any 'regular' dog show class. They are allowed in the nonregular classes of Stud Dog or Brood Bitch, or in the Veteran's class at an independent specialty (a special type of show). From www.akc.org: Dogs that are spayed or neutered are only eligible to be shown in stud dog and brood bitch classes. http://www.akc.org/dic/events/conform/rulesexplained.cfm Spayed bitches or neutered dogs may not compete in Conformation events, except in the Veterans class at an independent specialty. http://www.akc.org/dic/events/conform/index.cfm?page=2 If you consider that the primary purpose of dog shows is to evaluate breeding stock, it makes a certain amount of sense. Neutered/spayed dogs are of course welcomed in AKC performance events, such as agility, earthdog, obedience, tracking, herding, etc. CAIRNTALK: Questions?
