Protocol for performance initials?

As the dogs earn performance titles, what is the proper order of display? Kona has 3: RN SE and CGC. His earthdog titles were the first earned. We were told that the RN should go first (actually RN SE CGC). Is this correct, and if so - or if not- why? What is the protocol?

I'm by no means authoritative on this, but for some reason I internalized that the order of titles roughly correlates to the order in which AKC recognized the titles (with Rally squeezed in with obedience, since it's a subset).

Obedience

Rally

Tracking

Hunt Test (Earthdog in the case of terriers)

Agility Standard

Agility Jumpers

Agility Fast

I could be wrong, but I don't believe CGC is actually a title and is not included in formal AKC listings.

You are correct that the CGC is not listed. Most obedience people also just list their dog's highest title in the category, since it is assumed that if they have the highest, they earned the lowest also. (ex: RE, instead of listing the RN, RA and RE) However if you are a Cairn owner like we are and you know the grief we go through to earn those titles, we sometimes break with protocol and proudly list them all!

Hey, if it's not for anything official I'll go ahead and show 'em all. If, for instance, I were advertising a stud I would list every award from every source. My youngest dog has a mixture of AKC, UKC and breed club titles.

If the titles are being listed on an entry to a sanctioned event only titles recognized (awarded) by that sanctioning organization should be listed. If you enter an AKC event only AKC titles should be listed and vice versa for UKC, or others.

Thanks for the input. I was wondering about CGC.

So George, you think it's ok to use everything earned as long as it's not an official AKC event or publication? It makes sense to me. I like to see the dogs get as much recognition as possible (and the dog's handler/owner). For instance, on a private website, we could list all accomplishments.

In the CTCA yearbook, I also see dogs with INT, CAN, UK, MEX (and other) Championship designations. What is the protocol for CH designations?

I would only list the highest earned title in each series; UD suffices for CD + CDX + UD. But, yeah, titles from every sport and every venue are fair game in the proper setting.

Actually, if you read the AKC regs, each higher level title "supercedes" the lower level title, so once you have an SE, the JE is superceded and not allowed as part of the official name.
