I am wondering how many dogs everyone has (cairns and others). I have my 2 Cairns and I was thinking about adopting a larger dog. Possibly a lab or a mix. Not sure how 3 dogs would be. I know when I got my second it was easier than having one but not sure how that works with 3 dogs. It would be a dog already housebroken and past the puppy stage. I am aiming for a dog between 2-4 years old. I have been in contact with the Lab Rescue league in my area and am thinking about possibly fostering a lab first to see how it goes. I also need to keep in mind the sanity of my poor cats.

Just looking for some opinions on this, thanks!

I have four dogs. A Golden (8yrs), a Lab (7yrs), a very large mix(5yrs), and my Cairn (2yrs). The Cairn and the mix are joined at the hip. Now the Cairn was the last addition and he was a pup. That may have made things easier. Mine are all trained, working SAR dogs so this too may be an advantage. Occasionally, the Lab and the Cairn will have a tussle if the Lab tries to posture over the Cairn. The Cairn does not tolerate this and they have fought to the point of drawing blood. I had to do some serious retraining work to get that struggle under control. The only reason harmony exists in my house is because I always maintain the Alpha role.

I only have two cairns but that is only b/c I am living in a apartment right now and my male cairn has behavioral problems and I wouldn't want to introduce another dog until that is under control

You can look up ages in my profile, but we have Olie, Teddy, and Sweet Pea.

When we adopted Sweet Pea at age four a little over a year ago it took

about two months before we modified her behaviour so she could fit

into the group...she kept wanting to attack and kill Olie (but that's

another story.)

We have a cat and a rabbit both of whom feel perfectly safe hippety-hopping around

the living room with the Cairns. We also have 4 gerbils ... but I wouldn't trust

anyone but the rabbit with them. :)

I have 6 dogs! :w00t: Life is never dull around here. I have an Aussie (10), Yel.Lab (6 1/2), the 3 Cairns, Kiara (6), Abbey (3 1/2) & Hannah (3), and a Westie (almost 1).

We also have 2 cats, 3 rabbits, 2 birds, 1 bearded dragon and ferrets, lots of ferrets! I just got licensed to be a ferret distributor for my state. Like I say, it's never dull here. :D

I have 2 yr old (cairn) Abby, 1 yr old lab (Honey), and 8 mo old miniture schnauzer (Izzy). The lab was 8 weeks old when we got her so Abby was the boss as they were the same size (for about a month). It hasn't changed, she's still the boss. When we got the MS, Honey become the mommy, but Abby will always be the queen bee. They play well together and have never had a problem, but they were all puppies when they joined us and I don't know if that makes a difference.

We have 2 Cairns, Miya (8 months) and Max (5months). They are half brother and sister (same dad)

At first I was hesitant after we brought Max home, but now they would be lost without each other.

We also have an 8 yr old cat, Snickers.

We have 2 dogs. Bear is our 2 year old Cairn, and Oliver is our 19 mon. old Golden Retriever. They are best friends. They keep each other entertained. They chase each other, tease each other with toys, and rough house together. Sometimes we have to tell Bear to take it easy on Oliver. :D They are both lots of fun. We love them.

I would love to get another Cairn, a light colored female. I have been in contact with a breeder. The only thing that could hold it up is my DH. I thought I had him convinced, but then he changed his mind. Hopefully, when the breeder has a pup for me, he'll let me bring her into our home. We'll see.

MAKE it a GREAT day!!! :)

We have 3 cairns. One of which was planned to have, the other two just happened. Amaretto CD(13), Ashes (11) and Cinders (11). The one with the CD is the only one that was planned....Ashes came to our house because DH had him in his arms and I could not say no. Cinders was unexpected because breeder had originally wanted to keep her. I would not changed a thing....except that now when I see all your great puppies out there I want another.

I hope the OP doesn't mind me adding a poll to this topic! (Let me know if you do and I'll delete it)

In order to account for multiple-breed households, you will need to answer both total dogs, and number of Cairns. Answer should be number of dogs living with you right now.

There's always the gray area of litters and fosters. I guess in my mind, if a dog is with you for six months or more, it's living with you. Puppies and transients I probably wouldn't count as a permanent residents.

The poll results confuse me. I know of at least one other person with three cairns

and only three dogs (like me) but the results read, "2 people with 3 cairns", "1 person

with only three dogs." I looked for a head-scratching emoticon but could not find. :)

I dunno. :confused1: I tried to answer just the Cairn part and it would not accept the vote unless I also filled out the second half. Maybe someone accidentally picked the wrong button on the second question?
