The Belly Crawl

Greta has starting belly crawling every place we go! It's pretty normal for her to do this when she first gets up in the morning and around the house. But recently when we go places away from home, she will just drop down and start crawling even on the pavement. I had to go out of town yesterday and she went with me. At almost every stop I would take her for a short walk. While I was walking her, she would sometimes just plop down and start crawling. I had to do a double take. I wish I had my camera. Her tail was wagging the whole time she was doing this. Does anybody else's dog do this?

Daisy does this every time she meets someone new. She has done this ever since she was a pup. I believe this is a form of submissive behavior. When ever she is on a hard floor such as tile or hard wood she looks like a "swiffer". Dusting her way as she goes...

Henry does this when he knows he's in trouble or is scared. He almost never does it at home anymore, but he did it recently at my m-i-l's house when he escaped from his crate while we were gone. He didn't come when we came in and called him, and he dropped and crawled to us when we found him. I don't know if he was scared because he was in a dark, strange place or if he just knew he was in big trouble. It definitely seems like submissive behavior for him.

Mettwurst does this with his back end up, and tail wagging. He does it outside mostly when he is content- or if im calling him to come in he'll crawl over....very slowly....

Barney does this when he first gets up in the morning! We call it the Marine crawl! He will drag himself along with his front paws, dragging his legs out in back. This is usually accompanied by a couple of nice loud YYYOOOOWWWWLLLLL's! Then he rolls over and "washes his face" with his paws!

Since I know that I can post videos from my camera, I will try to capture this ritual and post it! It is really cute!

All creatures great and small, the Lord God, He made them all!
