4*kowbabies
Hello, my family and I are going to see a baby girl, Cairn Terrier today. I just want to be sure I ask all the right questions. I know she is 10 weeks old, and is being crate trained. She is the last of the litter left. She is also the runt. Is there anything more specific I should know? I have read a ton on the internet about them. I cannot wait to go see her! I was also wondering what price is moderate for a Cairn? In my mind, she is worth it, but I would like estimates, too. Thank you, Rachel
TNA
Welcome to the forum. I'm by far no expert, but here are a couple of things I made sure to ask. 1. Meet the parents (they should be on-site). 2. What vaccinations or medical attention have been rendered. 3. What kind of diet is she currently on. 4. If they are reputable breeders, ask them what about her makes her a pet quality pup, and not a breeder or show? As far as pricing, I've found from reading the forum we spent a lot on our two. However I would guess between 700-1000. At least here in the SW. Of course this was for AKC registered (with restrictions). Restrictions meaning that had we decided to breed either Digger or Jazmine, their pups could not be registered. We chose to alter anyway. All in all, I would just take a once over on her living conditions, other pets that she has been exposed to, etc. Unfortunately, we were taken by a "puppy mill" woman a year and a half ago who sold us a very young pup that had Parvo and died. We got our money back, but the emotional trauma still haunts us today. Both of our breeders are registered her at CTCA. Good luck, and keep us updated. Ang. Amber and the zoo
Here is a great site: http://www.hsus.org/web-files/PDF/Good_breeder.pdf Tells you what to look for in a good breeder and what questions a good breeder will be able to answer about your new puppy! Don't be afraid to ask all these questions either. . .a good breed will EXPECT it!!! The site is very determined to X-out all puppy mills. It is very interesting and good information. 4*kowbabies
Thank you very much! We ended up getting her. She is so darn cute. She is 10 weeks old, and the mothers first litter. She is a great puppy so far! She is turning out ot be very easy to train. She even picked out her own name. We wrote names on papers and spread them around. She went over to it and picked it up and carried it around. She is known as Precious Daisy Paige--"Daisy" Thank you!
