tena Posted August 12, 2006 Posted August 12, 2006 I took Sophie with me to visit friends yesterday. They have a teenage St. Bernard. We introduced them briefly on opposite sides of a chain link fence. Sophie boldly shoved her nose through the fence to sniff Lynyrd, who was frantically snuffling back. Then Lynyrd gave a bark. Sophie backed up 3 feet....sat down and looked at Lynyrd with the strangest look on her face. She cocked her head from side to side. I picked her up to carry her into the yard. Lynyrd took full advantage of Sophie elevated state to completely snuffle her backside. Not a peep from Sophie. We were there for several hours and Sophie would stare curiously at Lynyrd through the screen door. This is the first dog she has not barked at. If fact she was niether frightened or assertative....simply a quiet curious. I guess there are dogs big enough that Sophie will not challenge. Sophie
mrskti Posted August 12, 2006 Posted August 12, 2006 That's cute Tena, you know it's always a surprise how they're going to act around another dog. We never know what it's going to be like. THey seem to be more ornory with a one on one, but today they went to the dog beach for their first time....no barking with all those dogs around.....very interesting to me. Always facinating isnt it???? Terry, mom of Dori and Ellie Mae
OzGirl Posted August 14, 2006 Posted August 14, 2006 She was probably just confused to hear the pony bark
LilyGrace25 Posted August 14, 2006 Posted August 14, 2006 I was thinking the same...she probably didn't know what to make of that big pony ! Grace loves big dogs and is terrified of the small ones. One of her favorite dogs in the neighborhood is a HUGE great dane that she greets with kisses every time she sees him. On the other hand, we have a 4lb poo-something on the street that is very barky and jumpy. Grace will slick back her ears and roll on her belly as soon as we see the dog. That of course makes Lily mad! Nobody makes her sister scared and gets away with it . It is always quite a scene! Lynn
tena Posted August 15, 2006 Author Posted August 15, 2006 LOL- on the barking pony. His nose is the size of Sophie's body. Poor girl had to sniff a hundred times to match his snuffle. Lynyrd's tail was wagging and he was full of play posturing. She was just puzzled. Typically she will not rest if there is a dog outside, but she was very calm knowing Lynyrd was outside. Lots of head cocking. I was bursting with pride on how brave she was being with my friends, and tickled at her reaction to Lynyrd. Sophie
