Horrifying Morning

We got up this morning and all is fine - the girls both went outside we put them both down to go potty (thinking they weren't quite awake enough to chase/tackle/injure each other) and of course out of the gates there they go and chase and tackle and flip each other. We finally get a hold of Hollie, our biggest, and pick her up for a time out and Chris notices that her mouth is bleeding so he brings her in the house to me because I was making their breakfast and he puts her down and she has what looks to me like a seizure - her head is shaking - her whole body is shaking her eyes are all everywhere - I didn't know if Brystal hurt her when they were tackling each other - although Brystal is so small I didn't think that's what happened and I watched them wrestle and it didn't look like it would have caused an injury - and I in panic and pick up the phone to call my mother for assistance as I can't find the vets phone number - still noticing that she's having this seizure like episode - and then I look down and she stops and spits out a big tooth!!! All that for loosing a tooth!!! I thought she was dying. I think I had a heart attack in my kitchen. I was so frightened I can't even tell you. Chris didn't know what to do - I didn't know what to do. We abandoned Brystal in the yard and had to go find her -she hides in a crisis - Hollie of course only would touch a handful of food (probably due to her tooth episode) but she's bouncing around like normal - playing like normal. These girls I swear... I wish they'd quit scaring us to pieces...

I know what you're going through-Kirby would paw at her mouth, and act like she had something stuck in her throat, and then this tiny little tooth would pop out on the floor. She'd look at it like "oh, that should be in my mouth." And then that's where she put it, and down the hatch it would go. I suppose it's scary for them, because you can't really explain what's going on. If only there were a doggie tooth fairy! :P

Stacy, I would go ahead and take Hollie in to see the vet today. I'm not sure if losing a tooth would cause such a reaction. Finch lost a tooth while playing with Scout (a baby tooth) and I don't think she even noticed! Just to be on the safe side, I would at least call the vet and let him/her know what happened.

Good luck, and let us know how Hollie is. It sounds like you had a very scary morning!

I would consult the vet too. Better safe than sorry especially with seizure like behavior.

We give dogs time we can spare, space we can spare and love we can spare. And in return, dogs give us their all. It's the best deal man has ever made.

I have to agree with Shoe and Savannahsmom. When Duffy lost his baby teeth, they just pretty much fell out and that was that. I would take Hollie to the vet just to be on the safe side!

I agree....I would take your baby to the vet. Barney has been losing teeth right and left, usually when we are playing with his rope toy. When one comes out, he just acts like he has a foreign object in his mouth, then the tooth falls out of his mouth and he keeps on playing. His rope toy and my hands usually end up with blood on them, but that's par for the course with him!....

Hope everything is OK!

Hollie Update:

Luckily Chris has been home with her all day - (he lost 7 teeth yesterday due to an infection they couldn't stop) teeth issues everywhere in my house... called the vet for advice - said that as long as Hollie only had one questionable episode to keep a watch on her - says that she could have been reacting badly because we were holding her at the time that her tooth was coming out and she could have been trying to swallow and choke or desperatly wanted to be put down so she was shaking and such to get out of our arms - but I've been checking in w/Chris and he's Hollie is doing great. I really hope it was just her having a stupid moment w/teeth. They're just too precious to us to have anything happen to them - they have both quickly become our world :)

I'm glad you brought that episode up to your vet. If they said to watch her than I'm sure it was something minor....but I wouldn't hesitate to bring her in for a visit if anything out of the ordinary crops up.

No pun intended, but my heart was in my mouth when I saw the topic! I'm so glad that the vet was called. Better to be safe than sorry! Hope all continues to be well.

Hollie lost her matching tooth on the other upper side this morning. She pawed at her mouth and it just dropped out on the kitchen floor - minus of course the dramatics she displayed yesterday (thank goodness) all continues to be well and we're having a problem free day (which is amazing) sill fur kids. Will be so glad when teething is over - actually even though I know I shouldn't rush it, because they're only be babies once -but I'll be glad just to get them through puppyhood and still keep my sanity :)

That sounds like one scary episode! I never had problems with Kai-lee when she lost her baby teeth actually we only noticed when she lost one of them because I happened to be brushing her at the time. Keegan hasn't lost any of his yet but he's about a month younger than yours so we'll see how he does. I sure hope you don't have any more seizures, keep an eye on her!
