Hi I am Sue

We live in California a couple hours North of the rat race they call LA, in a small rural town. Tuff and Tippy are my first Cairns, along with them we also have two other dogs, which are large and stay outside most of the time. They are Jazz and Elvira I would guess I would call them shepherd lab crosses. We have two horses, one Quarter horse paint named Honey, and one National Show horse named Metric. We don

Hi everyone:

The boys and I have been away from the forum since last summer but this thread was a wonderful way to catch up and get acquainted with people and their fur persons.

I'm Barb (almost 52), married to Ben (64) for 22 years. I work for a local community college near Toronto, Ontario, Canada and my husband retired from Canadian Tire (the great Canadian hideout for men) last spring. I work with the Web team and a software program we use in the college for teachers and students to connect with each other. (no, I am not a techno wizard but I certainly wish I was)

My stepkids are long away from home at 37, 42, and 43 and between them have 5 children of their own.

My hobbies are cairns, cats, making cards (usually with cairns or cats), scrapbooking, being a pack rat, and recently the Red Hat Society - any other Red Hatters out there?

The boys are Ghillie (10), Smokey (11) and our two cats Holly and Loki both 12.

I am also a self confessed internet addict (in my spare time  ) Thank heavens we have a wireless network because I can sit on the couch and use the laptop and the dogs and one cat usually sit with me. I do try to keep them off the keyboard but I saw a muddy footprint on the case yesterday.

I hope to keep up with the forum again and have really enjoyed all these posts.

Hey there!

I am Rachel, 27 years of age this year and live in Adelaide, Australia. Me and my partner just recently got our first cairn puppy together - the lovely little Bella.

She is such a cutie , but at the same time is such a cheeky girl. She is only 12 weeks old and has been with us for only 3 weeks, but I feel like she has been there forever!!! I love her dearly!!!

When I am not playing with Bells I go to work for the government - good old public servant here! :P and in my spare time I am currently studying (good old books!!) and enjoy beadwork, knitting and watching the tv!

Hope to get some great advice from some fellow Cairn lovers and am glad to have found this site!!!

Barb here from Canada's capital - Ottawa. I am 55 years old, married for 36 years in March, have one married daughter, Lisa, and one beautiful granddaughter, Brianna, who will be 6 in February. My daughter lives less than a mile from me so I've been very fortunate to be very involved in Brianna's life and activities. My husband is retired and babysits Brianna in the mornings. I am a Controller for an ad agency and will be retiring this year. My daughter is an accounting manager (chip off the old block) for the Ottawa Senators (#1 in the NHL). We have had dogs all our life (German Shepherd, American Pitbull Terrier, Shetland Sheepdog) but Ruby is our first Cairn. I've always wanted a dog that I can pick up and hold on my lap, and Ruby indulges me. This has been a great forum for first-time Cairn owners and I check in regularly. Was great to meet everyone!

This is my first ever post to this page although I've been checking in from time to time for valuable information. My name is Beth and I'm from PA. I'm married with two daughters 18 and 14 years old.

My two babies, Tia and Bailey are both youngsters... ages 1 and 1.5 years.

After losing our beloved Chow to cancer two summers ago I wanted to go to a totally different breed... we could never replace her. After checking a breed book it seemed a Cairn was the perfect thing. So ... we purchased Bailey and 4 months later Tia. If I had known the rescue route would have been the way to go ... instead we bought 1. retail and 2. from an unknown breeder. The 2nd just because we saw her and feel in love with her. Getting the second was the best thing we ever did, it gave companionship to Bailey while we're all away during the day ... and they are just comical to watch... chasing each other around the yard, tumbling and barking at each other, you would think they were litter mates. I've never had a terrier so the personality is new to me ... but I've become totally addicted. I've been haunting the adoption pages but know two is probably my limit ... although you never know ;) I look forward to checking out these pages in the future ... these dogs still perplex me at times :D

I'm Tena, always single,44 and live with my 16 yr old son in WV. I recently completed college, a communication major and am a writer by trade. Worked alot of service jobs, before college. And since college have worked some interesting writing, research and formatting jobs. I love to read ( I think most writers do), do research on topics of interest, play with Sophie, visit friends and go see a good blues band,

I was very active in feral cat rescue and socialization research for a long time. Now am socializing Sophie, my amazing former breeding mill Cairn. My son, Sophie and I also share our apartment with Hunny, the 6 lb orange angora, and Buster, the 18 pound grey tabby.

There is probably a ton more but my mind drew a blank.

Hello all I am new to this board as of yesterday. My name is Krista, Ihave been married to Ben for 7 years. We have 2 boys ages 6 and 4 which we homeschool ( our first year, we are having a great time!) My hubby is a cabinet and furniature maker he makes very beautiful things, he learned from his boss who is also my Dad, he also works for his Dad who owns a jewlery store. I stay home with our boys Joseph and Weston, outside the home I am on the board of directors for our local humane society, just began my own rescue organization for terrier breeds and I train dogs.

My hobbies are my dogs, I own three, Sydney a 6 year old GSD, Cruiser a 3 year old Boston Terrier and my Cairn Kipper he will be 9 in April. I compete in obedience with the GSD and the Boston, Kipper pretty much chases balls and does terrier things all day. I love dog shows and competing and I love doing the rescue work I guess you could say that I pretty much eat sleep and breathe dogs! I am planning on being very involved with the Cairn as I have developed a huge crush on this breed!! My husband is a dog lover by marriage and is great! He loves our dogs and is really going above and beyond the call of duty with our new rescue. His hobbies are gaming and motocross (I personally think my hobby is much safer!) The things we do together that involve no dogs and no motorcycles or Nintendo are reading books together and bible studys. For the moment we are pretty much homebodies but when our kids get a little older we want to do some traveling, don't know where to yet!

Guest posting as: Stephanie

HI, I am stephanie and I just recently made a new cairn addition to my family. I am recently engaged and have been in the Air force for 3 years. Music and art are my hobbies and keeping my other half as happy as can be. Ithink that he is really jealous of the dogs though so he needs more reassurance than the new pup.

HI :D I am Karey.

Miss Emeralds Pics

I recently aquired two things, my masters degree in Psychology and Little Miss Emerald. I currently work with Dually diagnosed homeless persons. I am happily married.

Eventually Emerald will be trained as a therapy dog and be a working girl. But currently we are enjoying puzzle games, playing ball, car rides, dog training, long walks, family time, cuddle time, and the puppy zoomies like I have never seen nor heard before! Talk about loud and obnoxious!

Before my husband and I got her we led a rather sedentary and ordinary life for 2 30 somethings and since we have no children a pup was needed. I demanded it after years of being dogless! He had never been a puppy parent and while I had helped raise 3 large breeds prior to this I researched breeds like mad trying to find the best little Mans dog I could.

WE found it! We are enamored in this little 7 month old half pint! She is a charcter that is rather talkative and perceptive! I'm hooked! She has such a vocabulary and so many ways of expressing herself that surprise me. She looks at you with this "I sure do wish we could have a conversation look" My husband now knows and understands what Mans Best friend really is!

Aloha! I'm Kyle.

I'm very new to the Cairn breed, but have grown up with dogs my whole life! My Fiance and I decided to make an addition to our family, and decided on a wonderful little Cairn Terrier named Gregor who is now 4 months old.

As for us, we are recently out of college (3 years ago) and starting the whole process of begining our lives. We live in Honolulu, and as you can expect, the cost of living is very high here!...but it's the cost of paradise!

I'm very excited to have found this forum because it has helped explained so many questions I had about the Cairn Terrier!! I'm looking forward to sharing experiences with everyone!

I am a systems engineer in Annapolis, MD, aged 50. My hubby, Joe is 45 and a stay-at-home Dad for now. (No human kids, but lots of furry ones.)

We have Olie (long O, like Olaf Kolzig after whom he was named.) He is a 5-year old Cairn we've had since he was a baby.

Then there's Teddy (Bear) the Cairn who is about to turn 4 years old. He is my cuddle bear! He and Olie are half brothers, their Dad being a strapping red head!

Our oldest cat Lambert (a "Morris" kitty) has been with us only one year. He is 14 years old, and his family couldn't keep him anymore. His is a very regal individual and seems to have taken well to our family. He is sick today; it's his heart. We may be losing him soon. Both DH and I are very upset.

Our younger mischievous cat, Naia, is going to turn 5 this year. She is a rescue from euthanasia. The previous human brought her to the vet and said she didn't like the way Naia hissed at her, so put her to sleep. (She had already done this with Naia's brother.) The vet refused and kept her until they could find her a home. We needed Naia as much as she needed us as I had just lost my beloved Arcadia after 18 years.

We have another rescue who happens to be a Wascally Wabbit. He was named something else when we got him from the Friends of Rabbits....we call him Bigwig after the character

in "Watership Down." He's a strapping Californian with the most beautiful snow white fur.

All of the above live peacefully together in our house. Bigwig repeatedly tries to initiate play with the kitties; they want no part of it (sigh.)

Finally, we have our gerbils, Lizzie, Isabel, Mikey G., Alex and Kyle. We

had Max until October 2005 when we lost him to a bowel obstruction at the ripe old age of 11 months. (Gerbils live to be 5 years old, so that was definitely an untimely death.) They are beautiful and intelligent little creatures.

I've spent most of my life loving and helping nonhumans, whether it's a gerbil or a horse, each loss chips just another little piece of your heart away every time. I'm still upset about the unexpected loss of Max. He was a big beautiful lilac-colored boy and he is missed.

Anyway, that's the Wilk household at present.

My turn. I'm Beth (52) married to Ben (59). At the moment I have 2 wonderful Cairns, Grania (8) and Duncan (4). They are number 3 and 4. I have been blessed(?) with a cairn in my life since the late '70s.

We live in Peoria, IL, but I am originally from Wisconsin. I don't work, but Ben is a computer programer. I like to write and do some crafts when I can.

I am new to this forum, but I think I will like it here. :D

I have finally caved in and joined. I have been coming to the forum for help and ideas since I adopted my cairn Gertie last year.

My name is Shannon and I am married to Adam. We have been married a little over a year. I am 23 and he is 32. We are proud parents of Gertie who is a little over a year old and Joe my 4 year old tuxedo cat. I am from Las Vegas but we just moved to Orlando in September 2005. We both work in the tourism industry.

That's all for now. "Someone" has decided that mommy has been on the computer long enough and it is time to play with her hedgehog.

Hi, I am new here also. I live in Burke, VA with my fiance and our 2 year old Cairn Kody. I grew up with cairns. Tuffy (my childhood dog) is going to be 17 years old soon. He's been in my life since I was 5 (I am now 22). I couldn't imagine not having a cairn of my own, so as soon as I moved out...we got Kody. The best dog ever! :) She has made our little family complete.

I am a nursing student, and my fiance works for homeland security. Kody enjoys her 5 miles walk at the nearby park, and playing with her stuffed duck that she got for xmas.

I love this site so far!!!

My name is Natalie. I don't have a Cairn at the moment, but it's one of the breeds that we are seriously considering for our next dog. I want to be as informed as possible and do the research before making the committment. We hope to be able to bring home our new puppy sometime next year.

I hope to learn a lot from all of you about this breed. Thanks in advance for your help in my quest to learn as much as I can.

I live in Indiana with my husband. We have 3 kids and a Betta fish. :D

Hi!

I'm Sarah. I'm 26. I work full time and go to school full time. I am working on a degree in psychology. I plan to keep going and pursue a career in family/marital counseling. My boyfriend and I have a 5 month old red Cairn Terrier. I found this board several months ago as I was researching Cairns, and have since decided to join.

He's our only pet at the moment, but I've had many throughout my life. I grew up with rabbits, cats, fish, gerbils, ducks, dogs, etc. It seems I've always been surrounded by pet lovers, so I really didn't fully realize that there are people in this world that grow up without pets or that just don't have them until I met my boyfriend! He was hesitant to bring a pet into our home, so we did A LOT of research and thinking before deciding to get our dog. We've been exposed to Cairns (and I've lived with one) because my parents have one. We're extremely happy we made the choice we did!

post-1631-1158350750_thumb.jpgThis was a great idea!!

I'm Courtney, I'm 20 years old and live (for the time being) in North Carolina.

I was lucky enough to be raised in the two extremes, bustling New York City, and the farm country of Pennsylvania and Delaware. My husband says that gave me a country girl's heart and a New Yorkers attitude....I must agree.

I've been married to a wonderful man for almost 6 months, so we're still deep in the "newlywed" phase. He is a US Marine stationed here in NC. We lived in Washington DC before here, I LOVED it there, but he got orders down here, and, as I well know, when I married him, I married the whole Marine Corps. I can't complain. I love my life. I'm married to my hero, I count myself as lucky. (at least until he deploys....i dont know how lucky i'll feel then. a Marine wife really does have the hardest job in the Corps)

We have no children, 2 dogs. Our first was our Cairn, Maximus, the light of our lives, who, i firmly believe, doesnt really know that he's a dog. He's about 6 months old now. We had some problems with him when we first got him, health wise, and otherwise, but he is doing wonderfully now.

We recently got another puppy, Nina. She's a 5 month old lab/shepard mix. She is a sweetheart and, thankfully, doesnt try to battle Max for the "top dog" position, even though she's twice his size, and could probably roll him with no problems. They get along great now, which I am really thankful for.

Other than all that, I love watching sports, mostly football (Go Ravens!!) and baseball (Go Orioles and Yankees.....even though its pretty much against the law to like both teams....oh well) and I love working on cars. (kind of ironic that my husband doesnt like sports at all and couldnt even change the oil in the car!)

Oh yeah, I wanted to thank everyone who has given me advice about Max. We have been through alot with him, and being first time dog owners, we were kind of overwhelmed by not only the problems, but also just the "terrier" part. Definitely more than we bargained for, but I wouldnt trade it for anything!

Thanks again!!

I posted under Cairn Life as a newbie but now that I'm figuring my way around this fantastic site see that it should have been here.

My name is Doug my wife is Nancy, we live in Bozeman Montana. We've both been married before and had 5 kids between us but unfortunately it is now 4. We have been married 17 wonderful years and have 10 grandkids. I'm 58 and spent time in the USMC, worked with high risk kids (delinquent boys) and ended up in sales.

I'm a 6 year cancer survivor and have recently been retired due to medical reasons.

My wife is 29 yet again (just kidding) and works for the city.

Our family aside from kids and grandkids includes 5 cats, a Mali Uromastyx lizard and the most recent addition Gus, the thief of hearts.

Many thanks to those that provide this site.

Have you hugged your Cairn today?

HI folks,

This seems the right place to introduce myself :)

My name is Capp and I live in Eureka, CA, way up north on the coast. I'm 40, single and semi retired. I haven't found my Cairn yet, but I am currently in search of a puppy. I have owned, or lived with, dogs most of my life, and my favorites have been terriers. I love the terrier personality.

I haven't been in a place where I felt I had the time to devote to a dog until very recently, but now I do, so I'm on the hunt for a new buddy to come into my life.

If anyone knows of some well bred, well raised pups in Northern CA or Southern Oregon feel free to let me know :D

My other hobbies are computer games, writing and model rockets, I'm hoping I can train the pup for rocket retrieval!

I can't tell everybody how much I am enjoying this site. It is really fun to read about all the people who post here.

My life is not that exciting but here goes....Dave and I have been married for 17 years and I will turn 45 in a few months (everytime I say that outloud I wince!). I work at Johns Hopkins University and Dave works for a small family run engineering company. We live in York, Pa in an cute little 80 year old house. We have no two legged kids just Lily (2yrs) and Grace (3yrs) our cairns. My sister has 4 kids and we spend alot of time with them. It works out great for us...we get to be the fun Aunt and Uncle! Dave is a huge REDSOX fan, every year we make the pilgrimage to Boston to watch them beat up on the Yankees! I have to say even if you don't like baseball... that is a really good time.

We luv Lily and Grace so much its insane and spend 99% of our spare time either playing or talking about our two little stinkers!

I agree with Fenway..the people on this site are awesome! Lynn
