Puppy’s hair on head is soft

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone. My little guy Ferg is now 6months old and he is growing into a wild fun guy. His coat has come in quite nicely, except the hair on his head has remained soft? I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this....it doesn’t bother me, if anything it just gives him a little more chaos with long face hairs hanging around! I just have never seen a cairn with the same thing and was curious if anyone else had, and curious if he might eventually develop a wiry face.

Whether that face hair is coarse or soft, that is a lovely little face!

Both of my cairns - one a breeder dog and one a rescue - seem to have softer hair on their faces.  Softer anyway than along their back and bodies.  Not sure what the breed expectation is, but I certainly like the fluff!

Ferg is a cutie!

Breed standard acknowledges that head hair may be softer than the body.

Quote

Skull: Broad in proportion to the length with a decided stop and well furnished with hair on the top of the head, which may be somewhat softer than the body coat.

He is adorable.if he lets you can can carefully trim the floof around his ears.
