Puppies Rescued From Fire

Can it be legit for this pet shop to warehouse almost 100 puppies, (who I suspect might be from puppy mills)? Perhaps this article will get the attention of the good people of CT and Dutchess County, NY, and have this business shut down:

Not sure I have enough information about this retail outlet to make a judgment on the legitimacy of the business.  It was gratifying to see that all the pups survived the fire tho.

You might be right, Idaho... I shouldn't have jumped to conclusions without having more info. Arguably, the large number of pups seemed extreme to me. It conjured up negative thoughts re the proper care, attention and feeding for 86 vulnerable, needy young ones, vs. the profit motive that drives a commercial enterprise to cut corners. I don't know if regulations require sprinkler systems, smoke/carbon monoxide detectors for housing so many dogs, but the owners had a moral duty to do so. According to the report, the alarm came not from the pet shop, but from the warehouse behind it.

Puppies sell quickly this time of year.   The pet shop may have other locations it ships to so that not all the pups are at that one pet shop (very long).

Not everyone has had a pleasant experience when dealing with rescue organizations.    This is one reason why these pet shops continue to thrive.     

Often there is a thin line between breeders and backyard breeders and puppy mills.

Don't know what the answer is.....

Why some pet store purchases can be wonderful--even if they do not involve puppies!  Here's the sequence for
"Snuffy" from "Pal Joey".  I do have to argue with Snuffy's choice however--given being picked up by Sinatra or Kim Novak, I'd have to sit up and beg for the latter but this Snuffy is definitely an "Old Blue Eyes" fan--must be why he sold for just $25.00 bucks.

I agree dog person. One can find a lovely pup in an unexpected place and be disappointed in one from a well known breeder especially if the breed is a popular one.

There are many "puppy" mills in PA. Puppies are raised as a crop like calves, piglets etc. Are they more special? Check into the journey your piglet or calf makes to your table.................People just can't resist a cute puppy or a delicious steak.

And as you say getting a rescue pup is not always easy. Nobody was willing to sell me a rescue dog. In our area most people do not fence their yards. I cited many a tale of dogs escaping from fenced in yards, squeezing out, jumping over, digging under, running out a gate left open......and saying mine are all leashed when out with me in the yard. Never left unattended. It didn't make any difference alas.

Had a smile at the Pal Joey clip. My neighbor once bought a cairn terrier puppy from a pet shop because he couldn't bear to see her there. He'd had cairns long ago. Dear little Lily turned out to be a wonderful dog.

Completely agree with Idaho re Snuffy opting to be picked up by Kim Novak instead of Sinatra. Smart dog! (Novak never looked lovelier than in this bath scene). These entertaining movie fantasies always make me smile: $25 bucks for an irresistible cairn terrier (leash included)! But no worries... Wormer declined... and no food, dish or care/feeding, etc. instructions given or required. Good luck, Snuffy - you'll need it!
